Where do you buy whole green moong dal for sprouting in GTA? I have tried Suraj brand from Superstore and Aman brand from desi grocery stores. Both are Product of Australia and they do not come out very good. Even after 24 hours of soaking the dal, half of it does not absorb the water and it in its raw state.

Unbranded moong dal from Subzi Mandi in Mississauga came close but it also has a few beans that will not absorb the water and are in their raw state even after soaking.

So, where do you buy the whole moong dal that is good for sprouting?

One thing that you will need is NOT DAL. You need the WHOLE Mung.

Here is the procedure. *

Also when you have the soaked wet beans in a 'Muslin cloth' or a cheese cloth, wrap the beans tightly inside the cloth, then, PLACE a big weight, about 10-15 pounds, on top of the WET MUNG BEAN, right over that wet cloth, and you will see all of them sprout evenly and to your liking. Also you can use ANY Brand of beans and if you would like ANY Bean for that matter, and they all normally double in volume, so watch the sprouting process and loosen the cloth as needed.

A year ago they were selling the WHOLE MOONG BEANs for 75 cents a pound. Today they want $1.00 per pound. May be more tomorrow??!!

Good Luck Next time you try.

FH, thanks for your response. I am talking about whole Moong dal/Mung beans only. You cannot make sprouts from all the beans, it is not the same.

Freshco has some. I have seen some Metro also carrying them.

You have to soak them, in slightly warm water and keep them covered inside and inside the oven ( not oven which is on , but OFF ) . they will stay warm in there as opposed to outside..and sprout better

The more warm ur kitchen is, the more faster the sprouts wl form. Hope this helps.:)

I believe the purpose of eating sprouted beans is for its health benefits. Frying them will reverse the effects and waste the efforts.
