Friends,
Would like to settle anywhere in GTA area after our retirement next year.
Please advice if it is to better to buy a condo, rent an appratment, or live as a paying guest - we both are vegetarians, prefer Indian food. We would also plan to visit India, at least for three months each year.
We have never visited Toronto before and do not know much about the area.

Hello!
Advanced Welcome to Canada.
If i were in your situation, I would buy an Independent house or a Free hold town house and stay in the basement and rent out the upper 2 floors. The 3 months that you will be in India you can appoint your friend/agent to look after the rent in your house.
If you are Skeptical about renting, the next best is to rent our an Apartment on a month to month basis. All community facilities (Swimming, Gym etc..) can be accessed in community centres where you can travel by Bus / Car etc...
Areas where you will get tenants are scattered across the GTA.
You will be eligible for Old Age Suppliment money (subject to fulfilling certain residency obligations) and you can get many free things in the GTA , if you keep your eyes and ears open.
All the best for your retired setlement in the GTA. You are in the correct country for leading a peaceful , carefree, free medical life.
