Hi ! All CDs - specially the young at heart & grey on sideburns......
Is it worth considering the fact that at 43 if I plan to land in Canada only for getting my PR status validated, and may be then on keep visiting the place from India to keep the minimum validation days stay for PR to continue, & think of settling in for retired life at 63 ??
Your take on this please.
Thanks & regards,

Why would you want to go thru all this crap? What is wrong with retiring in India? Don't tell me somebody told you that you could mooch off the Canadian welfare system once you trun 63! It just may not fly as well as you might be dreaming up. It is pitiful to read this kind of posts. I think you should think better strategies to accelerate savings and build retirement in India and enjoy your golden years without worrying about slipping 'n fallin on the icy roads and breaking bones! You also get to enjoy a lot better and tastier foods back there than here.... for a lot cheaper price!
1. Will you be eligible to immigrate at the age of 63? There is no way you can continue your PR status from 43 to 63 while still being out of canada.
2. If you do find a way, how do you intend to pay for your retired life in Canada? Without having contributed to CPP, there is NO WAY you can expect any assistance from the Govt., except may be OAS which is a paltry amount wont even pay for your rent...
Think realistic. Not all dreams cum true...
Between 18 - 30 is the only right age to immigrate to Canada. If you're over 30, earning a handsome salary in India, then please do not relocate to Canada. Moreover, if you're married, then stay away from immigration to Canada. If you are married and have kids in India then do not even dream of it.
On the other hand, if you're in IT then try to get H1B and go to States, regardless of your age.
The choice is yours.
Its hard for people in desh to accept when u tell them the truth abt Canada (wonderland for them). I met a lady in Blore, in her late 30s, with two kids with husband having a decent job, wants to emigrate to Canada. They applied for immigration 2 yrs back. Husband is reluctant to move. She told me that she has a sister who lives in GTA and would take care of things after emigrating. What if the sister backtracks?

I know of several who in their late 30s and 40s came to Canada and now have gone back to India to better jobs after living here for 3-5 years.
However I don't think any of them are thinking of coming back to retire here. It was just to get a Can passport. Also when they left India , prospects weren't so hot as they are now. They did not plan to come here to go back. It just worked out that way.
If you plan to come here to get a Can passport for some reason, go ahead. I don't know how it will help you.All depends on your situation.
But if you plan to come here and somehow manage to go back and forth to get a Can passport and then come here to retire....? I don't know about that. I have lived overseas for more than 20 years and my plan is to retire in India, definitely not here.
Anyway, do what your dil and mind say to do. My advice is if you are thinking of scoring a Can passport for mobility purposes, the current situation would suggest that's a good thing. What the future holds, who knows.
What's the advantage of living in india with a cdn passport ? I am afraid I do not see any
