Hi All,
I have been living in canada since 2010 and around 2 weeks ago became a permanent resident (QSW) and living in Montreal.
I want to sponsor my nephew(My sister's son) who is in India.
(Small desc of him: My Nephew is around 10 years old and lost his mother when he is 10 months old and since then living with me (my parents), his father got married again and living seperately with his two kids and not taking care of my nephew)
Here are my questions:
1. Am I allowed to sponsor my nephew?
2. What are the requirements?
3. Do I need to have a legal guardianship before I can sponsor him?
4. I am in Canada, am I allowed legal guardianship in India?
5. Are there any similar case like mine that I can follow. If you know any case, please let me know what happened
6. If I can't sponsor, shall I bring him on study permit, if yes, how?
Thanks in advance.
regards,
.....luckyroyal

Hi Luckyroyal,
The best option for you would be to adopt him and bring him as your child. You can definately sponsor him once you have adopted him. As you said, you were anyhow the primary care taker and he has been with your parents since you left. Canada sees the best interest of a child and once you adopt him, Canadian government definately wants to see the best interest of a child.
I have done similar cases in past and know that there shouldn't be much problems. Yes, the procedure is bit lengthy, but not that difficult. Good luck
