Hi, this question might have been asked before but i could not find in archives & apologize if reposting.
My wife & I are PR residents & are currently residing in US & we will be moving early next year . however after we finished the landing formalities we returned back to US the same day to resume our Jobs. During this period in US last year we had a baby girl who is now a US citizen but we could not sponsor canadaian PR as we are physically not present in canada.
My questions are can we bring our daughter with us when we are shifting to canada as she is a US citizen & sponsor her from within canada? Will there be any objections at the port of entry? how long can she stay in canada with her US passport while her application is in process? Did anyone who moved recently from US to canada were in similar situation who can share their experiences about the process.
Most likely, your child will be let in without any hassles since US citizens do not require visas. However, some officers might insist that the child's passport be stamped with a "visitor's record" whose definition seems, at best, vague.
In other words, they may stamp her passport with an entry stamp and emphasize that she has 6 months of valid stay before which you will need to get her PR status or perhaps get her out to US and enter again for another 6 months, if things get delayed beyond the 6 months.
In any case, you may be subject to more questions as you have been away from Canada since becoming PR. Not that, you will be denied entry, but just more questions.
And yes, you can sponsor her while she lives with you. The application will be routed from you to Mississauga to Cdn consulate in Buffalo, NY where you will send her passport for immigrant visa at such time.
To expedite the processing time, I'll suggest you complete all the application forms, etc etc and keep them ready for mailing as sson as you are settled in Canada. It usually takes about 2 to 3 months through Cdn consulate in the US for PR, after mailing out the application form for the child.

Thanks Dimple2001 for your deatiled response.
We are still under less than 3 years of stay outside of canada out of 5 year period & i am prepared to answer any additional questions they may have with regards to extended stay out of country & hopefully that should not be a problem my guess. We have all the necessary paper work ready for sponsorship for my daugther & that will be my first priority as soon as i enter in country.
The part i cannot understand or may be lack of knowledge on canadian immigration policies is assuming they denied entry for my infant daughter, how can they expect us to leave infant baby outside of canada & me being physically present in canada to sponsor her PR? I am guessing there should be some kind of special consideration or special visa for children below certain age who cannot support themselves in the event of absense of any family members outside of canada. In my case my since my daughter is US citizen she does not need a canadian visa to enter in the country but how about for people who are in india & in need of a visa for their baby to enter with them?
Anyways, i would still love to hear from anyone who moved recently from US to canada with US born baby & sponsored from within canada.
Dimple2001, thanks again for immediate response.

I moved in June 2009. Same case. immig officer issued TRP Temprary residence permit for my baby valid for 1 year. I asked about visa free entry for US citizen, she said its not in this case as mu son is potential immigrant.
Guess what....that saved me later...how......i went to local community health center and they registerd my son for medicals and immunization shots etc untill he gets his PR> so i am still without helath insurance for him but he is being taking care of by that clininc free.
It took us about 2 months to get his PR after submitting docs, he just landed few days ago as PR.
