Yeah was there too.

Actually went there before dawn broke and waited till the sun rose and man I just gotta tell you it was the most spectacular scene I have witnessed in a long time and the feeling that went through me- words can't limn it.

As a matter of fact, it was the most beauteous moment I have spent in Toronto.
I was so taken in by it, that I went back in the afternoon. There weren't too many people so to speak and I had to park away and take a shuttle bus to the mandir, but the shuttle buses were every 5 minutes, so no sweat. But just like no way in comparison with the early morning beauty and the serenity of that moment.

But as somebody said, the purpose of a mandir can be served anywhere.

But then on the other hand why not a spectacular mandir?

Good intricate work. Lots of Buddha.

Its just amazing
I still remember when I saw other building along with this when under Construction
Nice to see so many Indians in traditional dresses, views from Indian family, dances etc

Any one from this forum attended the opening ceremony

Just come in mind
Do you think calling Politicians in Canada is RIGHT thing to do?
If not then what could have been better option for such opening ceremony

Just out of interest were Navdeep, Gurbax and Ruby at the opening ceremony?

While there in the afternoon, there was just one Sardar (at least conspicuously so as he wore a turban, how many sans turban were there who knows)and as usual many commented that there were more Christians than Sardars and were musing as to whether the Sardar MPs were there along with McGuinty, Harper, Dion and the rest in the morning.

I was wondering when this was going to be asked, it was only a matter of time.... :-)

My late grandfather in his younger days used to protest the "chappan bhog" puja (an elaborate yearly (?) puja where they make 56 dishes offered as prasad, it amounts to a LOT of food) by going on a hunger strike across the temple where it was organized. He was rigidly against it in a country where so many people go hungry every day (most of the prasad would go to waste). We also never used to get people asking for donations for Ganesh chaturthi in our home, because he would lecture every guy who came on the fact that it was criminal to "waste" so much money on the fesivities while so many kids go hungry every night in our country. And he wasn't an atheist by any means, he believed in the Gita with all his heart.

From a purely ethical perspective, I think he was spot-on. Was he being practical? He knew himself he wasn't. Organized religion is about so more than ethics or God. It is about pomp and politics as much as it is about God and the pursuit of spiritualism. Whether right or wrong, Keeping the masses engaged in religion takes a lot more than just a philosophy.

And I think that's the true purpose of the glorious and lavish architecture...keeping the masses engaged. It is a building block of every organized religion that exists and wants to flourish. The physcial structure is part of the premise.

The temple itself is stunning to say the least! Even if you're not Hindu, it is definitely a building to check out. I felt pretty proud standing in the crowd yesterday...

I was there in the afternoon and thought it was pretty well managed. No frustrations.

Having been part of Luminato, last year's Virgin festival, this year's summer rush, I can tell you that those were extremely ill-managed compared to this but I wasn't behind the scenes.

Even Roger Waters last year. Actually for real music buffs, the sound system was lacking immensely and the managing of the whole situation was damn sad, but still the public was wowwed!

Even knowing what went on behind, I was completely floored when they came on and totally blew everybody's minds away.

Did anybody see them this year at Rogers Centre?

Yes, I did see them this year, AND last year....
The sound system was not good as last year, although the graphics were a lot better.
Maybe it had to do with the fact that there was an Argos or Blue Jays game on in the afternoon at the venue, AFTER which, the stage for Roger Waters was set up.
Overall, it was worth the expensive tix.

The common denominator in both the shows was that familiar smell in the air, right from when Rogers played the first chord.......

Did anyone go for the Police one ?

But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.

Certainly not saying the management was bad. Overall, it was ok. A couple of my wife's relatives from the states who are big into the Swaminarayan panth and attend all North American events felt that this was not as tightly managed as the other ones. One of the issues was the incredibly long lines for the washrooms.

No major complaints though. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Are you there?
