These places are multinational organization. Believe it or not they are not there to be sadhu or saint for you, they are managers and sales staff. If they do not see a prospect in you, no point wasting time looking after your convenience. Visit places like these as any other holiday destination. Enjoy it if you can or walk of to the other attractive location.
Sect in subject is known for their respect for women as proved in Vadtal scandal and love for children as proved in NJ scandal.
Next time take your kids to camp or apple picking farm. Trust me, all of you will return with sweet taste.

Sorry to hear about your experience.
The "prashad" thing is more regional than anything else. Like it or not, mandirs in Gujarat are different in that sense from mandirs in North India that are different from mandirs in South India in handing out prashad. That does not excuse arrogance and rudeness though, I'm surprised at the way they acted with you . I've only visited the temple twice (not the new one that recently opened, the other wing a while back) but my personal experience has been pretty good. I remember the first time we went (my wife and I), as we were leaving, someone came up to us to introduce us to tbe pujari and then asked us to wait and have dinner with about 6/7 of them.
I don't however get the custom of separating men from women within the temple and having different areas. But it is a rule in all Swaminarayan temples and functions and always has been.

I have little daughter who was 2 when we went to visit the "haveli" (convention centre type facility next to the new mandir). This was a few years ago. My little daughter could not come into the mens section to remove her shoes with me - thanks to the rude and holier-than-thou volunteer in the foyer. Fine, so be it. We were invited to a pooja by a good friend and did not want to make a scene.
There was a staged play in one of the halls and our host asked us to enjoy it before his function got underway. Wouldn't you know it, the men and women are seperated. The men get to sit (on the floor) close to the stage and the women behind them. My daughter joined me and wouldn't you know it, the mandir nazi was on my case. No point arguing with them, I just left the facility.
Since I was leaving the facility anyway, I went into the ladies section, got her little shoes and put them on right there. My little show if defiance. Of course, I now just downright refuse to go there - no matter what.
