My suggestion is not to worry about 'desi family' as such when you think of moving. You will meet them anyway.
Some more info about montreal: A general rule of thumb...St.Laurent Blvd is considered the 'main'. Communities to the west of the main tend to be more anglo. Communities to the east more francophone. Southwards...La prairie, Brossard etc are more francophone.
Desis here(atleast ones I know) are not particular about living with ethnic/desi communities. However, they do tend to prefer the west island area due to its anglophone community and residential neighborhoods and facilities. Also even if your kids go to French public schools(mandatory for most immigrants unless you choose private schooling), staying in an anglophone area ensures that they are exposed to English too. ie: French in class and French and English in the playground. Compared to a francophone area where its mostly French all around.
If anybody is interested in the Montreal desi community, this forum may help them more since its 'Montreal centric'.
