This is Funny - Top of the Line !!!

Did he really say that? ...
Vishal-Shekhar are Melody ... hmmm think of \\\\\\\"Cash\\\\\\\"
Himesh is \\\\\\\"Popular\\\\\\\" ... yes he is right - \\\\\\\"Popular\\\\\\\". His music is not bad. I am no fan of his Voice though. I have never liked Mukesh or Saigal (Origianl Nasal). I don;t know people say ke \\\\\\\"Naak Se Gaata Hai\\\\\\\" but same people would go back & listen to Mukesh !!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I stopped listening to this program about 4 months back- I enjoyed the following jokes on his program:

1. He used to have a co-host - who used to stumble in every second sentence and forget every second telephone number of the sponsor. The host used to praise him for his excellent memory of numbers.

2. After talking for 5 minutes about the sponsors - the host says\\\\\\\" Ab sponsors ke kuch messages sunte hai jiske badaulat e program chalti hai\\\\\\\"- shows clearly how much he cares for the listeners. According to him only pre-recorded messages are commercials and what he talks live and the repeated discusssions he does with sponsors of the same old RRSP/ RESPs are for the benefit of the listeners!!!!!!!!

The co host is fired every two months in that programme. Co host is there only for giving telephone numbers.I dont know the whereabouts of Vivek kohli now.
May be we can start a programme with Vivek kohli now.He can be a good
competitor for double dadra and kahrava

Interesting discussion - My two cents as a regular listener of desi radios

- No body mentioned about that irritating lady that advertises her beauty products (Gelda???). If any Canadian heard her English, he/she would really strike his/her head on steering wheel. What an "ear sore"

- 530 AM Rashmi - I sometimes tend to listen when the programme is coming to end. Even during last song, she spends 2-3 minutes reading advertisments, leaving a very brief window for a song before 8 AM program starts

- 530 AM Poornima - Not heard anymore. The choice of songs was good, but she had this terrible habit of speaking "you know" before starting every sentence. Also, her language was more "bhelpuri"

- 530 AM - the new lady - sounds too young and inexperienced. Cannot speak proper Hindi. I do not know the fascination of any desi radio of cutting the song in between and starting the commercial. Almost feels like you are listening to "aakashwani". Even today, she cut off the last portion of "Kajrare" song (could not hear the "Tujhse Milna Purani Delhi Mein" :( )

- 101.3 Pinky - Much better than rest of the crowd. Has an excellent knowledge of the Bollywood music. Speaks almost "shuddh" hindi. But gives too much Punjabi songs. And for God's sake - not every Indian has "Lassi" in morning

- 101.3 - There is some expert talking in morning. This guy gives his comments on anything from religion to Canadian politics to technology. Worse, he gets lots of callers implying that callers do believe in him

- 101.3 Moin Akhtar - Everybody thinks same about him. He thinks he is an expert on music. As per him
"Waada Karo Janam" is composed by LP
Shankar Jaikishen and Naushad are the best composers in Bollywood and Rafi is the best singer in Bollywood
Salil Chowdhury played for Rajesh Roshan in "Kaala Patthar" (Actually Salil Chowdhury provided back ground music while RR composed the songs)

I keep on switching between 680, 1010 and 99.1. I used to listen to 640, but John Oakley has become too right wing. He deliberately tries to create controversies

But I agree with Hiren's comments. Every radio host thinks that all Indians speak and can understand Punjabi.

I like the way you have commented on the programs. From you comments it is clear that desi programs are not up to standard (I agree 100%)
But here is the irony
1) You still listen to these programs. The comments made by some CD's clearly shows they have been listening to these programs regularly no matter what!!!! Indepth disection of each program has been made
2) Most of the host are of Punjabi origin and catering to the needs to punjabi community. Most of the programs have punjabi name like punjabi lehran, punjab de goonj, Des perdes etc. There should be no problem (as per your perception) if they think every punjabi (not Indian) drinks lassi in the morning.

Not every radio host thinks every Indian is punjabi.
Rashmi program has hindi, punjabi and hinglish.
Radio voice has hindi and Gujrati
Band Baja has Hindi/urdu mix
As you mentioned Rashmi speaks shuddh hindi (you have problem with that too now)
Even Radhika Speaks hindi most of the time?
So what is the problem?

I guess there is a need for people from different langauge background to come up with radio programs. I wonder why they have not been able to do so? So many slots are available on 770AM. That is the reason why I respect people who are hosting these programs. They may not be professional, you may not like the way programs are presented, but the bottomline is they are the only ones who took pain and started radio hosting. It takes some guts to do that.

If anyone remembers RadioIndia hosted by Niti Prakash Ray will agree that program had very good standard.

Me hosting radio show? I do not mind but listeners will get tired of non-stop Kishore Kumar songs :D :D

But seriously, through winamp, you can have streaming audio through website. We can have a section on website, where each user can be allocated some time to stream music of his/her own choice. (And then people can post their "farmaish"

...........................................

To summarise

- I am just voicing my opinion. And not everything works as per my will in this world. And I was just adding to the comments that were already posted by other CDs

- There is a golden standard that desi radio announcers can emulate - Vividh Bharti (or even few Akaashwani radio stations), or even Canadian radio stations like 99.1 or 97.3 where there is a clear interval for commercials

- Yes. People from different background should come up with their own radio programmes, but as discussed, most of them become milking cows due to ad source rather than becoming source of entertainment

- The only radio that I regularly listen to is potpourri. But again, I stop it whenever it plays songs that I do not like. I listen to other desi radios only to hear some spoken hindi and sometimes they can surprise me by playing a nice song

Pure unadulterated Hindi is becoming a rarity these days. And I am not talking off Vajpayee/RSS Hindi. I am talking more about Hindi that was spoken in 20th century (phew!!) movies. Now, even the news reader on Zee Hindi news cannot count in Hindi. Other day, that guy was reading all the year in English (e.g. 2000, 2006) -but again, I am being too picky

I used to regularly listen to her during my drive to office - and you are right, her "you know s" were so many that I once counted 34 in my 25 minute drive! But what I liked about her program were:
-Very good selection of songs - from my point of view - it almost seemed liked I was selecting most of the songs.
- her detailed study of bollywood artists which is interesting to hear
- good command over spoken English and Hindi (except the 'you know' spoilers)
- a mature but good voice.

Another thing I did not like was her bringing her son to the program every now and then - the guy spoke more of Enlish with less of knowledge about bollywood.

People deserve a second chance - and sometimes even a third. However, she has failed completely even on a 10th chance - and now my morning drive utilises my cassette tapes which otherwise were forgotton, and business news on 680. This lady or girl is awful - wants to speak faster than she can think and tries to speak english with a total 'teth' punjabi accent (BR aato sales depo). For her, the advertisements are to be interupted only by half a song here and half there once in 15 minutes. She does not even let the 'live' advertiser speak in her zeal to announce his/her telephone number four times in 5 minutes! And she runs a radio program like a disc jockey in a club with fast music songs (most of them unknown or not popular) in the background all the time! The ten times I listened to her, I liked only two songs that she played.

I do not know about other desi radio programs but with the list given by Meghal, will try to tune in on my drive home!
