I am looking to buy a voltage converter to use an electrical appliance from here, in India. I am taking a 'Massage seat'.To use it in India I need to convert 240 volts to 110 Volts. There are some converters available at 'The Source', which costs about 50 dollars. There is one at walmart on the travel section cost about 15 CAD. Any one has any other ideas on this? Will it be cheaper to buy one in India? Did anyone buy one at Delhi? Please let me know. Thanks.
What is the rated wattage of the massage seat. If is it not very high (< 50W), CAD 15 sounds like a steal.
Otherwise, I would buy it from India just because you can get it serviced if there is any problem. You can find them on Lamington Road/Grant Road in Mumbai. I am pretty sure you can find them in all major cities.
Just make sure that you get a voltage convertor with a FUSE and that is appropriate for the usage. for e.g. If your appliance is rated at 200 W, use a voltage convertor / adapter that is rated at 400 - 500 W to be on the safer side.
Buying a voltage transformer from India will be cheap..(far far cheap) and U prolly can test ur massager there in the shop to make sure it works properly.
The most imp thing to look for is the rated wattage or VA (Both are almost same).
SO if ur massager is rated for 200watts, buying a transformer with 500 watts or VA rating will be the best bet, as mentioned earlier.
Thanks for the replies.
The massage seat uses an AC Adaptor. THese are the specifications
Input: AC120V 60Hz 400mA
Output : AC 12V 3000mA
THe watts are not mentioned anywhere(Probably using the Volts and mA, watts can be calculated?) .
To use this in India, I will need a voltage converter to convert 240 Volts to the input mentioned above.
Did anyone buy a voltage converter in New Delhi? Are the converters easily available? What kind of shops in India would have them?
There are two type of voltage converter.
One is I guess it the electronic one which is small at rated up 1500W: the one you get for $15. This can be used with any electrical devices, but not electronic devices
The other one here is expensive here which has a Step down Transformer: For any electronic devices you should use this one. E.g. DVD players, Nintendo WII, PSP etc.
The massager is electrical one I guess, so the electronic one with 1500 W will do
Where can I get the converter for $15?
Normally walmart/zellers etc keep in the Travel section.
