Did anyone hear abt the lady MP from Brampton (?) on her visit to Punjab got 9 and 5 yr old kids thrashed by the cops. Its a shame. Agreed, they tried to snatch her purse. That does not mean that she has to complain to the cops and get those kids thrashed. I saw the entire coverage on the tv. Was very depressing to watch. Shame on her. Now she is singing a different tune, that she loves kids, etc. The kids mom says it was the hunger that drove them to do this. The lady MP is putting a spin on it to avoid any negetive publicity for her.
I did not watch the TV coverage or know this MP.
My take is simple, if you commit a crime, you should be punished.
Logic given by the mom that hunger drove the kids to commit the act, Well..
they could have done so many things other than stealing or robbing.
correcting at young age is good, rather than regretting later.

What will a 9yr or even more, a 5yr old kid know? Do they have the ability to make the judgement call as to what is right or wrong? If their mother or some one else directed them to do it, then they r the ones to be punished! May the 9 yr old deserve a warning... but 5 yr old??

like my mum says...Indian police are the biggest CHOR!!!!
Did the lady thrashed the children or police?
If the police then it's not that lady's mistake. In other case if she could have slapped them and let them go, then also people might blame her - 'MP from Canada, slapped 2 poor children' .
I guess there were 3 options:
1) Call police
2) slap children and let them go (as someone quoted)
3) do nothing
well no one would choose option 3. And a Canadian MP would never choose option 2.
The original question : Who thrashed?

The purse had family's travel documents, therefore calling Police to find those who snatched it was the right thing. Seems Punjab Police over-reacted to impress upon the visiting MP.
