We are looking for a speech therapist for our daughter. We live near Burhanthop and Dixie. Does anyone know of a good speech therapist who lives in or around that area. If you know someone good in Mississauga but not necessarily from that area then let me know about them also. I can find a lot of therapists through the internet, but I am looking for therapists who have some reputation(something I can't figure out through the internet). We are on a waiting list for the Peel speech and language preschool, but we want to start the process now. Does anyone have any experience about the costs involved? I have heard different numbers which have a wide variance. Just to clarify, I am not looking specifically for an Indian therapist, I am just looking for a good one.

Speech and Laanguage theray is free in Canada. Talk to to your family doctor and he will refer it for you. In Peel Region services are provided by Erinnoakids. Check their website at erinoakkids.ca.

Thanks for the info. I have already talked with Erinoaks and have been duly placed on the waiting list for Peel preschool for speech and language. I am trying to kick start the process earlier and not wait months for this. My daughter has been recently diagnosed as autistic and the quicker we can get things started the better it will be.

How old is your baby? I would recommend involve healthy babies nurse. This nurse will come home and assess how urgent you need it. You can also ask your ped to refer hospital ped..called neo-natal service. Hospital ped can give you immdi. thearapist who works in hospital based on priority.
We had similar issue with our son. But we have development delays, and have been waiting for this development prgram..which is same you have metioned. but when i took him to see hospital ped.they have given us immd. hospital therapist who can work until we get one from peel region.

Also, I am not sure private speech therapist availble or not..check that out. And then check with your insurance do that cover? if yes then ask your ped to give your referral to private thearpist until you get goverment help.

I know this doctor(pediatric ophthalmologist)..they charge $40 for visit. Unfortunately I just have his address but no phone number:

We too were looking out for a speach therapist. We registerd with the peel board in 2007 are still on the waiting list.

We had contacted a few private speach therapist who were either too busy to reply, or not interested when the case was our son - 13 year old, who had some threapy before we came to this country and the charges were around $200 a session.
