There are well trained psychotherapists who are educated in psychology. They can successfully counsel people for many conditions and are more affordable than masters level psychologists for those who have to pay out of pocket. The problem is there are very many under educated or fraudulent people who also use this title or similar titles. The regulations are going to change soon.

Thanks for an interesting reply. However, counselling will not help with psychological disorders/illness, rather might worsen the condition (I am talking from experience of helping my cousin brother).
Further, the extended insurance covers only a Registered Psychologist's fees, not any counselor out there. While I was seariously searching and doctor shopping, I came across many of these counselors with blah blah degrees after their names (just do a google search and you will find tons of them). In fact, they sound very similar to some palmist or fortune teller offering magical/unrealistic results... which itself raised red flags for me. I agree that the government is doing a good thing, as they are going to regulate this profession, so that we are protected from those 1000s of quacks out there.
Btw, we did not have to pay a single penny from our pocket for the services of this Psychologist Doctor. Cousin's work insurance directly paid everything.
