GG, BL, pratickm:
I have written about this issue previously [when there was an outcry about why some posters were complaining about the services of an immigration consultancy firm].
I agree with what BL said and the current disclaimer is good enough. GG should not be worried about people posting here. A simple google search will show you how much is written against any particular firm. That's the nature of the internet. GG cannot do more than what he has done now to protect himself. But I believe there should not be censorship as long as the complaints are factual & well founded. I'm afraid if we go down the road of being nicey nicey to everyone for whatever reason(s), then this site would have failed in its endeavour to enlighten people on Canadian immigration issues.
Of course, the moderator(s) can always delete a post that is offensive, baseless and ill-intentioned. That too is a very fine line and a separate debate altogether....
That's about as much free legal advice I can give at this point.
Finally, I'm sure you'll understand I can't comment directly on someone because it may be interpreted by some that I am taking advantage of the situation to speak against immigration consultants. I have nothing against immigration consultants, my disgust is directed towards the 'unscrupulous' ones. Believe me, I have many people who come crying to our office and it's often too late. The damage is irreversible.

Good Point Masood

How to judge that the complains are factual? I often noticed the posters of such things just posts a topic or two and they disappear.
Understand my point. Anybody want to defame anybody can just register with this site, post a topic with full of complaints against anybody and that's all!
How can we control this? I can understand if a person is posting 50 posts and than companining about something is ok, as by that time we all know that the person is real and so his/her complain should be real.
In any-case we are here for constructive things, have a better picture of Canada and as far as possible we should keep ourselves away from posting anything against somebody without any facts.

GG,
You've got the point there...I fully agree with you...
Massood and any70, May be we need to give it a thought on the issues raised by Garvo...as we all know the real purpose of this site...

Amit

Massood, I agree with you totally that we should not go down the censorship route and I can assure I myself am vehemently opposed to all forms of it. I also think the forum will disappoint some of its best/most active members if we start snipping indiscriminately, myself included.
At the same time, I also share Garvo's concern that since it is so simple to register and post here, people may misuse this forum to settle a grudge. And currently we're 3000 odd members, but when we grow to say 30,000, it'll be a lot more difficult to moderate stuff like this.
That's why I'm requesting that whoever posts a complaint should post full details and not be bashful, rather stick to the facts and the whole facts. I think Sanjeevm's first post on this topic is a really good example. Also the poster MUST post their contact information as well (both email and phone number), so that the information posted can be verified if need be. Either that or post a link to a legitimate newssource should be provided. And in the end, it will be upto the moderator(s) discretion as to whether to edit or delete a post.
Hope we're all on the same page here.

Are you there?
I differ slightly on the posting of contact name and number openly on the forum.
A lot of times, an applicant's case is either screwed-up or receives substandard service from a particular law firm.
Most applicants are not ready to change horses midstream and therefore want to maintain whatever relationship they can with their immigration law firm.
At the same time, they wish to warn others about using that firm's service.
In such a case, they will not want to post their contact information on a public board like this because (1) the immigration firm can charge them with defamation and (2) the immigration firm can further ruin their already screwed-up case.
I agree that the majority of immigration firms are not vindictive like this and will prefer to work with the applicant to resolve all issues, but we all know there are unscruplous firms out.
I think it will be better if the registration process has some kind of email confirmation built in to at least ensure that a person with a valid email address has signed-up and that the email truly belongs to that person only.
Not that this prevents someone from creating a temporary email address on Yahoo, etc, just for posting, but it at least gives others an option for contacting the poster.
As always, this is MHO.

good points all around. I think enough has been said. I want to devote my time replying ...
There are people waiting in the 'immigration section'.
