Hi DT,

I have been to SCC several times and do use their services to get money back from people who default on paying rent and also who default on paying interest on investments and on other issues. I have a couple of cases pending , one against a powerful builder here in TO, who returned my principal on a real estate project gone sour and who also paid interest every quarter as promised but did not pay me the last quarter's interest which is what I am trying to collect

In the above cases Ellen Roseman would be of no use at all.

In the beginning I did go to SCC agnst big companies selling consumer items but found that Ellen Roseman is a better conduit, as the issue is resolved w/in a few days esp if I have gripes agsnt Staples, Best Buy etc and when they settle they settle with several freebies on.
Agnst Future Shop, I not only got my faulty big ticket item replaced but also had the warranty period restart from the day the item was replaced plus a voucher for $300 bucks to spend -yeah you got it right, back in FS- so I promptly went back and got a digital camera.
Also Rogers settled a gripe with a little more added on. So did Staples etc.
I don't know how effective Ellen would be in your cases.
As far as taking the fight to their doorstep teaching them a lesson for the future- I severely doubt it. People will still flock to them for their needs, as the numbers are currently in their favor.
What one needs is a serious Ralph Nader that fights for the consumers here and then many more will jump on board, however still no Walden Two even after that.
Please note I am not knocking SCC here , I have regained money through them, but find that agnst certain big companies and in certain instances which I have gained through experience, Ellen is a better bet.
Thks the info, but I am aware that SCC handles cases of upto $10,000

Anyway, your trip, if the SCC route pleases you, go right ahead.
I am just citing my experience.

Thanks Desitiger

Lot of people give from India give up and I am one of them, We are carrying the same fear as we had in India (spend years in court).

Here we have nice system in place and there is no need of Lawyers.

Questions for you.

What happens in Court? Is like judge JUDY?
What kind proof they expect? Written / oral/phone.
Do they need date/time and what conversation took place over the phone/orally?

IF you can guide us, it will be benefit our Canadian desis

YES keep fighting.

I still don’t any long distance nor I could change provider as Rogers is playing games and telling other provider that my phone is inactive. It has been two months.

Thanks
Jay

Sorry for going slightly off the topic. Read this http://www.ellenroseman.com/?p=95#comments

A few comments are outright hilarious. Why are people so scared of outsourcing? It is fine to get qualified immigrants and rob the other nation of well educated manpower but outsourcing is a big no no. Read the comment by 'Shankar'. Great response.

Time involved in SCC is too taxing even for $5,000

I have resolved all my gripes by writing letters to onyourside at The Star.

Ellen Roseman is in charge of the dept.

Till date all my complaints have been resolved toot suite as soon as she calls up the company that I complain about.

Complaints about Rogers, Fido, car companies, Future Shop, you name it, all been resolved by a simple email to Ellen Roseman.

Try it.

Hi Jay,

My answers are below:

What happens in Court? Is like judge JUDY?
<Answer> The setting is certainly similar, You have the judge on the bench, a court reporter sitting below, a table for Plaintiff & Defendant to sit and the rest of the seating is for the audience. It certainly does not have the theaterics you see on Judge Judy :D

What kind proof they expect? Written / oral/phone.
<Answer> All Three though documented proof always has the most value when proving your case.

Do they need date/time and what conversation took place over the phone/orally?

<Answer> The more details you can provide, the better it is.

Let me know if you have any questions.

DT

Hi CDs,

Seeing the interest in this topic, it is obvious that this is or has been, a pain point for most CDs. In my previous post I offered to help evaluate the merit of escalating your issues to small claims court, and now I will take it one step further.

If you are not comfortable attending the court proceedings by yourself, I will help you with the same as my time & schedule permits.
**Please note that I will only do this for cases that I feel have genuine merit but may be derailed in court due to the Plaintiff's (you) inability to counter the defendant's court room tactics.**

Please PM me with any specific questions and / or requests.

Thanks

DT

Hi DT.

Great initiative..especially after another good initiative of MIM...I trust more immigrants are taking advantage of that service as well.

Speaking of price gouging of the big companies in Canada, is there any way to fight that unjustified 'System Access Fee'?..:cuss: ...By default when you subscribe to the service, you are paying monthy minimum amount, why is extra system access fee?..and why does it increase all of a sudden? Is there a forum you know of where we can effectively voice and fight this nuisance?

Recently Rogers has declared increase in prices of all thier services, especially the entry level ones..Basic Cable, Ultra lite Internet, Home phone, System access fees - I think I will be set back by another $10.00 PM now :cuss: , but dont have any 'good' options to switch to...heard enough horror stories of other companies. I think it is high time Mukesh/Anil Ambani took note our plight and give these bell and rogers a run for thier money in Canada...;) :)

Sorry for the rant.. :( .thats all we can do when we are helpless..:D

Technically, like the FCC in the USA, the CRTC should be keeping the Cable & Telecom companies in check to make sure that unjustified fees like the system access fee can not be charged to customers and also the price / value ratio of services is maintained.

In reality, the CRTC is a joke. These bunch of assclowns are mere puppets whose strings are pulled by the likes of Rogers, Bell etc.

And if the Ambanis try to enter this so called "free market", guess who will create the most road blocks for them...........You guessed it :D the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.
