Time involved in SCC is too taxing even for $5,000
Really? Have you ever sued anybody in SCC before? Let's take a look at what is involved:
1. Filling Out Plaintiff's claim - 15-30 minutes.
2. Mail application to Small Claims court - Cost $75 + mailing fees
3. Attend Settlement hearing - varies, usually 2-3 hours
4. If other party doesn't want to settle, attend trial - 1 Full day.
7 out 10 times, if your case has merit, the defendant will want to settle. I'm curious as to how many people would find 3-4 hours of work "too taxing" to recover their money. FYI, the SCC can be used to sue for amounts upto $10000.

Just out of interest and for the education and edification of us all, in your Merc case, how long from filing of case to hearing?

Great initiative..especially after another good initiative of MIM...I trust more immigrants are taking advantage of that service as well.
Speaking of price gouging of the big companies in Canada, is there any way to fight that unjustified 'System Access Fee'?.....By default when you subscribe to the service, you are paying monthy minimum amount, why is extra system access fee?..and why does it increase all of a sudden? Is there a forum you know of where we can effectively voice and fight this nuisance?
Recently Rogers has declared increase in prices of all thier services, especially the entry level ones..Basic Cable, Ultra lite Internet, Home phone, System access fees - I think I will be set back by another $10.00 PM now, but dont have any 'good' options to switch to...heard enough horror stories of other companies. I think it is high time Mukesh/Anil Ambani took note our plight and give these bell and rogers a run for thier money in Canada...

Hiren,
As soon as I got the letter from Rogers regarding the increase, I called them and threatened discontinuation of the service, now they are providing me the same service for less than I was paying before, FOR ONE YEAR. I will fight again in December. Just an Idea.
