Hello Fellow CD's,
I just wanted to get some of your opinions on living in or around Guelph. Due to circumstances in my hubby's career, we may need to move back towards Toronto soon. Instead of moving to Brampton or Mississauga we were thinking about Guelph or the surrounding areas around Guelph would be a nice place to live and eventually bring up a family. The main thing I would like to know is what are some of the nicest neighbourhoods to live in?
Proximity to other desi's is not really a factor for us or desi shops as living in London currently, where I imagine there are less desi's than in Guelph, we've never had any problems in finding desi groceries.
Appreciate any comments.

PP,
While I donot like in the Guelph area, I know that it looks nice from the outside. Chittesh is based in Guelph and he can infrom you better about Guelph.
Personally, I think that Guelph is too far from Mississauga to commute on a daily basis . You would need atleast 1 hr. to reach to your destination in Mississauga.
I would suggest Milton which is between Mississauga and Guelph and is a growing area. Prices are still cheap there but it is rising rapidly. It is around 20-30 mins. to Mississauga.
Both Guelph and Milton are served by the 401.
That is my 2 cents.

Hi,
I live in Guelph, have been here for the past 3 years. This is a beautiful town, 20 mins drive you are out into the open country side and farm land and all that (if that interest you). Most of the localities are good, though some maybe a bit far from basic shopping and you may have to drive.
If you are working in Toronto then driving there will be a real pain and personally I would not want to do that year round, but sometimes you have no option. The highway 401 which everyone takes to Toronto from here is one of the most busy in N America if not the world, highly accident prone because of the speed, this is a highway everybody loves to hate. This is something you would want to consider beforehand.
Hope that was helpful and not confusing.
All the best
Thanks Sri60
We have since decided to move to Georgetown - found a beautiful home and we are hoping to close on July 28th. After considering our options we felt that Guelph was too far from work (I will be working in Miss. and hubby in Brampton)

Georgetown is not very different from Guelph, just smaller. I have been living in Guelph for 18 months now and just love it. We have just 2 desi noeghbours but both are awesone and we dont feel the need to have more desi crowd around.
Guelph is ideal place to live if you work in Cambridge/Kitchener/Waterloo/Woodstock/Brampton (bcoz of Hwy 7 almost no traffic there)/Downtown Toronto (greyhound takes you there in 1hr 15 mins to 1hr 30 mins for 280$/month)/Hamilton/Burlington etc
I work in guelph (20 mins using transit) and wife works in cambridge (20 mins commute in almost no traffic)
If you work in Mississauga its a painful commute. 401 is fine west of Milton all the way to London its from Milton all the way to Toronto where it gets screwed.
Homes are still affordable in guelph and there are 2 desi (3rd opening soon) groceries. With a total polulation (not desi) of <120,000 i think that is decent. There is a new public school opening 10 mins walk from our home..
We sometimes go to mississauga to visit friends during weekends and thats a 45 minute drive. So we dont miss anything. Insurance is cheaper, home prices are cheaper so we have a much better standard of living (better house, more disposable income etc) than a lot of desis living in Mississauga/Brampton with similar income as ours.. Th
Overall we are very happy with our decision to move here.
