Being a neighbor of India, I am getting to think what is in China that is not in India. I mean facilities, opportunities.
Too many medals? Huh.. What way we lack the sports / fitness sense. I still feel the poverty could be much higher in China.
Where the hell all our energy getting sucked ? What really demoralizes / demotivates the youngsters (again in the context of comparing China only)...

As per U.S. Census Bureau, International Database, China has a population of 1,313,973,713 while India has a population of 1,095,351,995.
[2006 numbers].
My theory is that it is some people among the 218,621,718 difference that are winning medals.
As soon as India catches up on that difference, we will start winning medals too.
Given our rate of growth, this won't take too long - most likely in time for the next Olympics.
So hang in there.

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
I dont get it, can you pl explain the stick concept a little more in detail Maharaj.
They may have strict training system and a lot of monetary help from govt. unlike India where we have dirty politics showing at all levels in sports.Devi's failing in dope test. One fails to understand WHY do weightlifters face all this everytime ..somethings fishy.
Sure, the government in India is corrupt and gets in the way. But to say that the govt. is the main reason why India does not win more medals at the olympics is being complacent at best.
Becoming world class atheletes requires a lot more than just financial support, it requires unrelenting drive, big ambition and above all, superhuman perseverence. How about we forget about the govt. for a while and look at the athletic inclination of the nation as a whole (i.e. outside of cricket)? After all, there are athletes from poorer countries with govts. much worse that do better than India in the olympics.

Are you there?

These are the Questions that every Indian Asks ... not before or after but during every Olympic. Where are you for rest of 206 weeks?
There are some athletes which are good ... but rather than support all that we give is f%^&ing complains - even on this board.
On the other side of:
One major difference - China has President with Stick. And the Best/Worst part is that he Uses it. Chinese & Indian both are same, in general sense both these need "Bamboo". India has Democracy, Secular, Reservations, Corruption. Rather than all these, give them "Bamboo" and you'll definitely get Medals.
