I have vast experience in Sales, Marketing and Customer relationship management. I have an MBA with a major in marketing from a university in India. Currently I am a tech support rep with a sattelite broadcast company here.
I plan to transition into SAP, and certify in the Sales & distribution module. I would like to move to the US, after this I am posting here, to get an unbiased overview of SAP.
1. I would appreciate information from my fellow desis who have certified in the sales and distribution module about the pro's and cons, how easy (or tough) the certification exam is, and what the career prospects are.
2. I spoke to a SAP trainer who said that certification was not a must for a career in the US, and that a person with about 3 years experience could earn $ 60 an hour as a consultant in sales & distribution.
I would appreciate any inputs from those who are \"already there\" in the field of SAP.
My query is very similar to the one posted above. I have an MBA in Finance, and currently working for a Bank here. I have extensive retail banking experience. I was reading up on SAP-FICO and wondering if this would be good move considering my background and experience.
I would like to have frank opinion and views from fellow members as to what could be the downside in venturing into something very different..

I will suggest to get into any organisation where SAP is already implemented to get hands on experience on the job or where they are going to implement it in near future.
Basically the SAP functional consultants work as business process owners. I detailed knowlege of business is required.
Certification is not a big deal if you have in depth knowledge of business processes. 3 - 4 years real business experience should be okay to start with.
A certified person with 3 years of SAP experience can make around $50/hr in SD and around $70/hr in FICO. For 5 yrs experience, add $30/hr.
