Is it safe for North Indians to visit or live in Bombay (Mumbai , Bambai) ?

They are 'preserving their culture' all these foreigners in mumbai, diluting the marathi manus legacy. Changing names are not enough one has to defend the culture. Or else Maharashtrians will become a minority in their own place. Raj tackrey seems to be a strong maharashtrian leader like his uncle. Just what Maharashtra needs to keep the Marathi Manus land safe from being taken over by biharis, gujjus etc.

Actually its pretty safe and thriving. Atleast for now. My immediate family is in mumbai. Visit today just to be sure. Tomorrow...one never knows

They came from other part of Maharashtra.

Agree with you fully. Bombay owes a lot to non-Maharashtrians
- If it wasn't for Britishers, it would still be a collection of 7 islands. Instead of being feeling obligated, they remove the British influence from Bombay by making it Mumbai and renaming VT and Sahar and all other roads
- Bombay owes a lot go Gujaratis and Parsis and their entrepreneurial nature for making it the financial capital of India.
Maybe Bal Thackeray and his rugrats need a lesson in history. Bombay does not belong to them. It belongs to whole of India

actually it belonged to the kholis...the fishermen. The sultan og gujrat had given it away way back in 15 something to the portuguese. There were no gurajisand parsis in mumbai at that time. Infact the portuguese did not have any use for the place so they gave it to the brits at some point. Its after that that a brit governor invited the parsis.
Anyway a lot of responses regarding the Thackreys tactics...note that its the same tactics used by the far right/nationalist jingoist elements everywhere including India. Only difference is that 'Marathi Manus' becomes some other 'Majority/son of the soil'.
