I had a similar situation in an apartment building a few years ago. It wasn't just me but a few residents heard the noise. Seemed as if there was someone doing some wood-work.
We complainted to the building super a few times, and then to the Management. In the end officers from Ministry of Housing came in and inspected each unit. All the tenants were informed about the special checking and guess what - nothing was found. Eventually the noise stopped
In this case I'd suggest walking down the hallway and trying to figure out where the noise is coming from, even try the floors above & below. That's what we did, but with no luck

Yes, 5am. My neighbour used to be up at 4:30am and used to walk around regularly. I personally did that too sometimes.
