Hello everyone,

I need your expert advice on filling out application. Mississauga office has already approved my sponsorship application and I am filling out the form for my father and brother (my mother is passed away) to send to local office.

1. My Father doesn't speak English, but my brother does. On the application I have to choose interview language preference. Can I my brother translate? So I can choose English on the application.

2. Will it effect the application if my father doesn't speak English?

3. This question will be so weird. My father and brother's names on the passport is different than on the citizenship cards (there is one extra name on both). So when Mississauga approved it they have that extra name on file. But now on the application they are asking them to fill out names exactly how it is on their passports. Will this confuse them?

4. My father was married to another women about 30 years ago. Does he have to mention her on the application under previous marriage. At this point no one knows if she is alive or....If he fills it out as never had previous marriage will they really check and will it really be problem?

Thanks in advance.

1) State the facts. They will provide him with an interpreter of their own if needed. Depending upon his age, they might permit your brother to accompany him into the room. They normally would respect the privacy that is needed.

2) No. He can take language courses there and continue with them after reaching his destination here. At least make an effort.

3) Write the names as it appears in the Passports. That will be the official document and it is copied off that one. (I lost you there when you brought up the Citizenship Cards). There is no confusion. Each document has its own purpose.

4) YES. State as the facts stand. If they ask for details that you don't know, then write N/A in those columns. If you are unable to check or do not want to make an effort, then I am sure it will stay that way.

Good Luck.

Hope this helps you a little.

Freddie.

Freddie,

Thank you very much for your advice. One more quick question.

My brother just turned 22 and he has to provide documents to show that he was in school the whole time. He finished his bachelor's on June 2008 and got accepted/doing his Masters since September 2008.

On the background form he has to list everything that he was doing during the past 10 years. (IT SAYS DO NOT LEAVE GAPS). What does he have say for July and August 2008. How do you fill it up when you are in school? Every school has summer break right? and do you have to explain all the summer breaks?

Thanks again

They normally do assume that it is a break. But it will be nice if you could write those dates and specify them as Summer Holidays. That way it will be fully explained by you. (They don't have to get back to you just to ask, which might delay it some more.) So, if they say do not leave gaps, then follow it to a "T". You do not leave them as a gap.

Staying at just one location sometimes gives you the privilege of quoting just the years and a certificate from that institution will cover the whole period. When you move from University to to the next or complete a course and obtain the degree and move on to the next, the gap occurs and hence calls for the specific wording at that gap.

Just for asking, did he work during the summers? There are region specific forms and they need to be filled in properly, so make a note.

Freddie.
