To summarize - very satisfied at the level of professional and courteous service offered by the VFS personnel.

I was there around 9 am and I was called in within 2 minutes of waiting. The first agent checked all the documents I submitted and cross checked with the originals. Once she was satisfied with all the docs, I had to go to the second counter to pay the fee and for additional verification and computer entry. Since one of the passports was US, the system rejected it. The manager of that place came out and handled that issue and straightened it out. It took about an hour and fifteen minutes with most of the time spent checking the documents and few minutes of small talk with the agents.

One of my photos had a glue smudge, hence they requested if I can replace. I had additional copies of both photos and part A of the application, hence that was not an issue.

Bottomline, when you go there, go with extra copies of part A and part B plus one or two extra photos. There were few applicants with inadequate applications that tried to argue their way in but were sent back.

thanks for sharing your experience. Do they keep originals or return on the spot after verification?

They keep the originals to be forwarded to the Indian Consulate. It takes about 2 weeks for the originals to be returned to the VFS, at which time they can be mailed back (if you chose that option and provided paid envelopes) or be picked up in person.

They will give you a receipt with reference number(s). This number can be used to track your application at in.vfsglobal.ca to check if the originals have come back to VFS.

Once the originals are returned, further tracking of your application is done on another website that belongs to the foreign ministry. This website will inform if the OCI has been approved and (later) granted.

The VFS at Brampton has a coin operated copy machine if one needs to make photocopies. Else, there is a photo place around the corner beyond the Passport Canada office. Also, it helps to take your documents in an organized manner (say, using binder clips and such) rather than handing over to them as bunch of loose sheets. Regardless, they will staple all the documents as they see fit and put them all in a big ziploc bag.

I also took with me, stapler, glue, some paper clips. The glue came in handy when I had to replace the photo.

VFS Processing Charges:
A charge of CAD 19.25 ( excluding taxes ) payable to VF services (Canada) Inc. is applicable per passport Please note that the fees / processing charge is non refundable and non transferable

Is this fee to be paid in cash?? Or another draft in name of VFS Canada Inc.or in name of Consulate General of India, Toronto ??

also, any specifications for the pre-paid envelope like size and the stamp value?
thanks for the replies

The charge would be $20.21 incl. GST per application. If paid in person, it can be paid by cash, debit or credit. If mailed, then it has to be a certified funds (draft) payable to VFS (exact payable is noted in the VFS website.
