I suppose Vandematram meant that it is particularly embarassing that it happened in the presence of her MIL, because of the in-law relationship.
It's not a pleasant situation anytime but having your elderly parent or in-law witness it is worse.

Aliens as in beings from other planets not immigrants if that's what you are thinking.
