I am feeling low and looking for help on depression , Is there as GP doctor or walkin clinic where I can get a presciption for anti depressants

I don't want to visit a psychiatrist or take some big treatment , I don't have a family doctor

Hi,
While someone lets you know about a good doc, you might try the following in the mean time. These help me with my depression:

1)Get lots of exercise : This is very important. It naturally increases the levels of Serotonin in your body.

2)Take fish oil capsules or eat more salmon

3)Get more sunlight: If you are affected by SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), you might want to get more sunlight. If that's not possible, you could invest in a sunlamp. Lack of enough sunlight reduces the levels of serotonin in some people, and this might trigger depression.

Hope this helps.

Diamond

Diamond_n's advice for exercise is really good. Once your body runs out of energy your brain won't have anything left to worry about :D
Walk more often. Get out in fresh air more often.
Watch less/no news. Media is evil - they repeat and re-repeat and re-re-repeat tense news over and over again and again. That increases stress.
If you have to watch tv, go for Raymond, Seinfeld, friends, etc. Repeats are equally enjoyable.

Whenever you feel low, ask this question: "What's the worst that can happen?"
And I'm sure you can cope with it. So why bother?

We came empty handed, we'll leave empty handed ...

Try to discuss things with friends as soon as possible and as much as possible - friends who listen to you sincerely and have empathy with you ... but are not judgmental .

Try medical help lines ... they should be free and can offer counseling . Please google and discuss with them .

Lots of exercise is a very good tip : this can help in sleeping well .

Depression is a temporary phenomenon and a change in circumstances / place may affect it largely .

Please visit the following link http://www.health.gov.on.ca/ms/healthcareoptions/public/index.html?gclid=CJzWjKHRzpsCFRAMDQodNVQ-IQ . I ve used Tele Health Ontario once and they are good .

Telehealth Ontario is a free, confidential telephone service you can call to get health advice or information from a Registered Nurse. A Registered Nurse can help you decide whether to care for yourself, make an appointment with your doctor, go to a clinic, contact a community service or go to a hospital emergency room. To speak to a Telehealth Ontario nurse, call 1-866-797-0000 or TTY 1-866-797-0007. You do not need to provide your health insurance number and all information is confidential.

treatment for depression is usually a combination of medication and therapy. YOu dont have to go to a Psychiatrist ( medical doctor that requires a family doctor referral). You can self refer to a psychologist or registered clinical counsellor. If finances are an issue, contact your local community services for referral to low cost counselling. Many counsellors in private practice have a sliding fee scale depending on income.
