Hi. I'll be moving to Toronto soon to complete my studies and I don't know any people in Toronto so I'll obviously be on my own when I reach there. I wanted to know if it's a safe place for a girl to be living alone?

toronto is a safe place and try and stay with find desi students and stay with them.

Depends where you live in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Like any other city, there are some shady areas you should avoid, but generally speaking, Toronto in one of the safest cities to live in, given its population and size.
And I don't know of many areas here which are safe for a guy and not safe for a girl, generally an unsafe area is unsafe for both. Of course, girls have to be a bit more cautious for obvious reasons.
