salaries are very hard to judge.
too many factors.
- experience
- location
- size of company
- state of company (doing well or in a rut?)
- ***luck***

* if you ask them, they will ask you how much you want. sometimes you might quote a too low figure
* if you call them, the receptionist will not put you through due to HR rules

Hi Friends,
I see many IT jobs posted on W & M but most of them have no salary info.
How do we get that info - that would give us any idea whether to apply for the job etc.
Any tips would be helpful.
Most IT people make between 50 to 110K.(including bonus and other benefits).
Usually Large companies will be at the middle end, Mid size companies at higher end and small companies at lower and higher end.
This is mostly for Full time positions
If u tell me the skills and experience and the company name i could give u some ball park idea..
Good companies always value talent and pay based on skill.. I had got a job in a company and asked for a low salary as i had just migrated.. they offered me 20K more..

If i did not have a job and i was desperate i would ask for 45-50K
If i had a job i would obviously ask for more than what i make..
If i am not desperate then i would ask for 70K. Considering the market today they may not even bother to call u for an interview because u are asking for too much.
I have seen if u ask for too much then HR will tell u u are asking for too much and tell u the upper range..
For testing contracting is better as the skills are universal and work for any technology..

If u think u can do better in this economy.. please post u resume and see how many calls u get..
Performance tester or functional tester does not matter QA as a career pay well if u are contracting otherwise most places will rarely offer more than 70K and not in this economy..
Anything more will need the person to take some kind of leader ship position..
The negative side for performance tester is that the openings are few and far..
I am a Mech Engg and I will do performance testing in my sleep.. no need of comp sci degree..
Performance engineering is not performance testing. Performance engineering is 100 times more difficult than performance testing.. Yes performance engineers can get paid because it is a very elite skill..

dude performance engineers get paid much more than software testers. your range is low.
Performance Engineering is about optimizing performance of large enterprise systems and generally you have a computer science degree.
