CD's need some advise, I came across a add for a Accord 2001 that has been purchased from a dealership and was involved in a accident. Carfax report from the dealership mentioned that it was a partial loss and the front bumper required replacment with a total cost of damage @ $1546
Bottom line, the car was involved in a minor accident as per the carfax report and the dealer who sold the car. There has been no driver train or chassis damage however with this on file, is it worth it for me to buy the car !?
Car has low kms and seems like in a good condition. I was wondering if buying the car us a good idea, and would it effect my insruance rates for using a car that was involved in a prior accident !?
What do you guys think the price of such a accord should be !? its approx 130Kms, manual drive, EX with sunroof etc. All advise as always is much appreciated.
Thanks
COugar
They have DX - LX - EX and also Fully Loaded Packages. with A/c/CD/DVD/FWD/Sunroof/4-6 cyl, etc., Also 130K looks to be too little a mileage(Odometer could have been rolled back!)
They buy these clunkers in an auction and then they fix them. The insurers might??!! refuse to insure them. Because the insurers know the history in their computers (books) and what they wrote the darn thing off for. They will not provide you with the history of the vehicle. Also these transmissions are suspect. So, take the risk and the chance.
If you feel that the price is right for you and you have fallen in love with it, then try and beat the seller down to a level that he will say 'no'. These vehicles are all on consignment and the next day they won't be there. They will say that it was sold out. But it will appear in another seller's lot for a lesser price. But before you buy it spend at least fifty bucks to get it checked by a qualified Mechanic. That is the best bet. If he finds anything derogatory, then tell the seller you will return. And don't go back.
Good, well maintained one will go for SIX grand. Beat up one for 900. So be guided accordingly.
That is my experience. And that is my pricing.
Now give us all of the details that you have or judge the issue for yourself.
AND Good Luck.
Freddie.
Don't forget: It will need tires every four years/one per year.
It will need a Battery once in Five years.
It will need an alternator every five years.
It will need some part in the exhaust system every year.
Two oil changes an year.
Two good tune ups. Out of that One Major.
Manual clutch, one every three years.
Wheel alignment every year.
From next year, Snow tires every winter.
The fifty bucks for the mechanic will give you a write up.

Dealers ONLY deal in NEW Cars. They have a used car lot alongside of that, that sells all of these used CLUNKERS. It looks like that these are from the dealers. BUT They are are NOT !! So, just because the sale is taking place at or near by, does not mean that it is from the DEALER. What a travesty.
EX models are the top most and should have FWD or AWD as the case may be. You might even have a choice of switching over to the FWD mode. Explore the model.
Call an appraiser from the Yellow and see what he will quote for one. Bring the price down to a level that you can manage. Also ask the Mechanic too, but do it before you bring it to him, or prior to putting the offer. Then take it to him and ask him to give you a safety check. I think it costs about $32 or so. Please make sure with the Mechanic. Then if you need a safety ask him what are all the expenses that you will have to go through RIGHT AWAY. Then the balance in due course. That should give you an idea as to what you are trying to buy and get into!
Hope it is a great deal!
Good Luck.

Dealers prior to selling a vehicle to you are supposed to perform Safety and Emission test. They are also supposed to divulge any problem that might arise from Safety check and fix them prior to selling the car to you...
By the way, what can a mechanic check for $50? Engine? Transmission? Structural integrity
Relax...not every car in the lot is a "clunker"
Just do your due diligence and hope for the best. Good luck and I hope you get to drive your Accord soon!

One more thing keep in mind, there is a rules if your car had been accident, Dealer have to tell you upfront before purchase of car as this is mandetory part of selling.
if he is a dealer than some how you have to trust compare to roadside shops.......
its my opinion .............hope will help little bit.
