Hi Friends, I am looking for a handyman who can help fix a leaking spout in the bath tub, I am unable to figure out on how it opens to replace the faulty cartridge responsible for the leakage, any suggestions and inputs welcome.
Thanks in advance for your valuable time.

It is good to know, You must be living in a house. If so, you must first find the Water Main Shut OFF valve. (Clockwise it shuts. Anticlockwise it opens.)
Some of the High End Shower control valves will provide you with a FREE Cartridge. You can contact the makers, whose name appears on the controls.
Such as MOEN, American Standard etc., They will courier it to you for FREE.
A few of the cartridges can be obtained for free from HOME DEPOT also, you will have to explore this. I have gotten a few for myself from them, for MOEN controls. Please check this out before tackling the job.
Now comes the Handy man's work. I will not call it simple. But it is very very simple once you know how. There are a few will show you how to do it yourself at HOME DEPOT. Also occasionally they have a Saturday morning demo show. I know it is too soon an it is coming just tomorrow. Please call them and check first before you go head over heels rushing for the demo. It just takes Just under 10 minutes to learn from the show. They will show you how for any kind of controls.
You will have to drain all of the water in the line by opening the lowest tap in the house. It will be in the basement. (Such as the laundry tub or the taps there on it.) Once the water is drained, the job becomes easy. Also some of the bathtubs have a spout that can be used to drain all of the water in the line. You be the judge of this. Before you open the water main again, please shut these laundry tub valve ot the bath tub spout. Then crack open one half a turn on the Water Main Shut Off Valve and check to see if the cartridge is installed properly and the hot water side is HOT WATER SIDE, if not, then you will have to drain the water again by shutting off the water main and turn the cartridge through 180 degrees and CHECK it once more. This time it SHOULD BE O.K.
Also look for an exploded view of a MOEN Faucet:

If you know the number on the faucet and if it is Moen. Otherwise see if you can get one for the make that is installed in your bathroom. Then proceed with it slowly. (Please do not loose the parts into the drain. So, cover the drain with a bath mat and stand on it.)
Hope this helps you a little.
Freddie.
Edit: Please see if you can get this book from the library for your use.:

Thanks ftfl for your detailed and informative reply.
My brand of taps has no manufacturer engraved on it any where( no name), probably it is the no name brand type used here , are there any standard cartridges available and applicable?
I am going to try the ways you suggested hope it works for me.
