Why don't you put a pan or something under the leakage to collect it and confirm what it is?
As jd said, if it is a really old car, just don't bother. Keep checking the lube and topping it up from time to time. It will be cheaper to do that than to go in for costly repairs to a car which you do not intend to drive for long anyways.
