Hello:
I have been working full time without any break for last 7 years. I would like to sponder my parents. I am married and have a child. I meet the financial requirement to support 5 persons.
My child is new born. It's very hard for my wife to manage the child so I am planning to take paternity leave for 7-8 months. Wife is a housewife and not getting any maternity benifit.
I would like to know, if I sponser my parents based on my past and current employment which meets the criteria, what happens when application is in process and they ask me for second year income which will not be sufficient if I go for paternity leave. Because my monthly family income would be only what I get from Employment Insurance for 7-8 months. After this period, I will be working full time again..
Does the EI benifit affect the process or even cancel the application ? or should I wait for another year when I start working full time then apply ?
Please let me know.
Thanks

One thing you should definitely consider is the slowing down of the approval times, which currently stands at 32 months and is likely to touch 36 months, if the current trends continue. Add the India processing time of 12-24 months and you are looking at a minimum time of 5 years for the PR to come through.
As the earlier poster suggested, its better to speak to Praveen Kalra and get his guidance.
Thanks Freakoutguy and G13 for recommendation.
To answer the initial question, income received as EI on paternity leave is allowable as an eligible income to meet the minimum income requirement. However, as per the eligibility criteria, the sponsor and the co-signor must maintain the minimum income as specified by LICO throughout the entire processing period. Please feel free to contact me for any other query you might have on this issue.
Best wishes

Hi ,
I didn't know about this condition being applicable throughout the processing time ... Thanks .
Does this mean that the sponsoror cannot be a long term non resident of Canada during the processing time .. for eg if he / she has to go outside to work as a non resident for 1-2 years ..... ?
