Hi Aashu,

We inquire at Service Canada and come to know that my wife must have finished 900 hours to be eligible for regular EI benefits after parental benefits. She had finished 640 hours before parental leave. So, she will not be eligible for regular EI. But once again, I'll ask when she will receive later of end of parental EI benefits.

Thanks

what is her situation if she loose job ( remind u she will be on mat leave for 50 weeks) , means she dosent have enough hours in last 52 week as regular EI required

WE ARE MOVING TO TORONTO, so after mat can see go for school in toronto under EI ?

Blue_Peafowl,
Your wife is on mat. leave for 50 weeks. After the 50 weeks, if she does not have a job to return to , this clause from the EI kicks in which says :
Depending on how many hours the person worked in the past 52 weeks before being unemployed will determine how many weeks of EI the person is entitled to. In this case, your wife would have worked for 2 weeks at the max and hence she is not eligible for around 700 hours that the EI requires to pay your wife EI. So she will get nothing after she finishes Mat leave and has not job to return to. I personally know 3 cases like this.
Regarding taking courses, there is a 5 year reachback to past receipients of EI (and it does not say Mat leave, Parental leave etc...). So you have to double check with an agent as to if she is eligible for Ontario Skills development / Second Career etc. where the payout is around $ 28,000 for any course you like. There are agencies that help you free to get this and they can / and will tweak your resume to fool the Govt.. (for example, in my case, I have written that I have 8 years of Business analyst experience outside of Canada and was earning $200 / hour outside Canada and that I should be allowed to study to be a business analyst in Canada as Canadian companies are not recogonising my experience and qualification and there is no way that the govt. can check this but they have to grant my wishes. So these are some loop holes of the system which a govt. appointed agency itself will allow you to do so that you will be approved for a course as well as they get the comission from the govt. for helping us).
So take care that you fully understand the system before you exploit it or else it can back fire on you. There are some checks which can expose you and it is very essential thatknow the checks and work around it.
In the event that your wife is allowed to do courses, please register now itself as the process takes like 3 or 4 months to do.
Hope this helps

Peace by TK

Blue _peafowl,
Further to my last post, I am pleased to inform you that after Mat. leave, if you wife has no job to return to, she is eligible for training under Ontario Skills Development in Ontario. The relavant govt. link is as follows ;
http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/tcu/jobseekers/skillsDevelopment.html

Who is it for?
You may qualify for the program if you:

Are unemployed
Are eligible for Employment Insurance (EI), or were eligible within the past three years
Left work to care for a newborn or newly adopted child, and were eligible for Employment Insurance maternity or parental benefits within the past five years.
However, it all depends on if your wife really has no job to return to and may be not your wife does not want to return back to her old job but do Ontario Skills dvelopment course for 28K (Max. payout)

Regarding the agencies, it depends on the area you are in.
For example in Square 1 area of Mississauga, it is VPI-Inc (Google for more info.) and in Kitchener / Waterloo it is Northern Lights and YMCA (YMCA for Non Canada born people only like you and me)

All thebest.

Peace by TK
