Hello cd's,
I request some guidance on my wifes job situation. She is working with a company for the past two years and was told recently that her company was bought out by a competitor with possible job losses in the near future.
My wife is now 3 months pregnant, so if she loses job, will she be qualified for Maternal/parental benifits ?
The qualifying period shown is EI site is a bit confusing. If she loses job right now, she wont be qualified(600 hours not completed). Please give me some info?
The qualifying period is the shorter of :
* the 52-week period immediately before the start date of a claim, or
* the period since the start of a previous EI claim if that claim had started during the 52 week-period.
Regards,
Since she is 6 months away from the claim and has been working till now - even if she remains un employed here on , she would still have worked for 6 months / 840 hrs in 52 weeks before the claim ... which is more than the needed 600 hrs in Ontario.

Fido.
U don’t need to worry about maternity since she is working at the moment.
Even if she get laid off , she will still be eligible to get maternity
By they way maternity is more flexible towards their process… if you don’t have enough hours in last 52 weeks they will even go for last 2 years of income.
There is one more thing if she gets laid off now, then u will have to check with them to find out how would they calculate the amount( for how long) . I am not 100% sure but they will combine ei+maternity.
Again getting maternity its not a problem but how much she will get that u will have to make in consideration
Just call them straight and ask for calculation and amount of weeks which she will be eligible including EI .
They are very friendly at least in Quebec as far as i know cause my wife has similar situation. I don’t know much about Toronto.
if u really need good benefit then u will have to use little trick, i can give u some idea pm me.
