Have you read the book 'Dummies for immigrants' ? I have not.
I hope someone write one soon. Remember this was my idea.

um.. it's the other way around.. "Immigrants for Dummies":D . tho that's a real good idea, what?

biomed - are u serious about the educational standards here? I thought they were bad in the States.. so this is worse huh? Just my rotten luck..

Had to step in. My wife and I co-authored a book ARRIVAL SURVIVAL CANADA. Pretty much like an 'Immigration for Dummies'.

You can check it out at http://www.arrivalsurvival.com" rel="nofollow">LINK

As for my experiences, been here 6 years now. First 3 years joined a publishing company as Account Manager. My background was in advertising, but not many agencies in Vancouver. Anyway, did good at this company and left after 3 years as VP Sales & Marketing to join another company as Director Global Advtg. Got laid off after 2 years.

Started my magazine. Hopefully this will be my breadwinner for some time to come.

While I agree with the last two points, I do not understand why do Indians give so much stress on knowing good English - may be because we have grown up knowing and speaking English. I have seen many a successful persons (now let's not debate on the meaning of success) in Canada who can hardly communicate in English, but they have been successful anyway. This includes orientals, East europeans as well as our Punjabi sikhs who came here to struggle and did, and survived and achieved success. Many of them can hardly communicate in regular English that most of us Graduates from India take for granted.

Chandresh,

My suggestions are based on what I have seen & experienced. One size doesn't fit all. Sure there are those who have a lesser knowledge of English who have succeeded. The point I am trying to make here is that if you do polish your English communication skills, you load the odds of succeeding in your favor!

It can only help. Can't hurt you. ;)
