Hello all,

I am looking to process Canadian PR for me and my family ( wife and Kid). We are Indian citizens living in USA for past 5 yrs. Below are my questions

1. What is the average wait time for the PR (Federal Skilled Worker program)

2. Can I process(file) my own application or should I go through an Attorney ? I enquired couple of attorney and they said it will cost me 2000$ (US) (excluding the canada govt fees) Is it a reasonable amount.

3. As I see from the other forms seniors advice not to quit the current job unless a job offer is available in canada. How stable is the Canada job market ? I work for sofwares how is the market for software jobs ? any info or websites for job listings in Canada ?

4. I often see the word Canada credentials what does that mean ? Where can I get information on what to study that will be accepted in Canada ? We are interested in doing some online certification that will be recognized in Canada any information on that please.

Please give us your opinion on the above questions.

Thanks

1. What is the average wait time for the PR (Federal Skilled Worker program).
A) If you are processing from within US it may take anywhere between 1-3 years.

2. Can I process(file) my own application or should I go through an Attorney ? I enquired couple of attorney and they said it will cost me 2000$ (US) (excluding the canada govt fees) Is it a reasonable amount.
A) Attorney not needed based on my experience. I have applied on my own just by following guidelines from cic website. If i were you i would save that 2k. But just be prepared that you need to fill up lot of documentation.

3. As I see from the other forms seniors advice not to quit the current job unless a job offer is available in canada. How stable is the Canada job market ? I work for sofwares how is the market for software jobs ? any info or websites for job listings in Canada ?
A) Before you ask this question first check if you are qualified in Skilled worker programe in first place. From what i know rules have changed recently & you need to be in managerial level in your current position if you are in computer ( IT ) industry. Please check the CIC website if you fall under skilled worker programe. I am not 100% sure if you are qualified if you are just a devoloper or programmer. To answer your original question i guess you still have couple of years to research about software job market.

4. I often see the word Canada credentials what does that mean ? Where can I get information on what to study that will be accepted in Canada ? We are interested in doing some online certification that will be recognized in Canada any information on that please.
A) i am not sure what this means but my guess is if you have sufficient work exeprience in US then that can be added advantage as employers consider US work experience.

Please give us your opinion on the above questions.

Thanks

Yes you can and please do so all by yourself. If you can stay in the USA for the next two years, it will get completed before that time.

1. Current processing time is about an year. FSW, process...

2. Please fill the application all by yourself. (After you are successful invite all of the Canadian Desi's for a party) We are more reasonable than the consultants. And we all will welcome you and also enjoy and thank you in person. Can't ask for more.

3. The Government says we are out of the pits. But for those who are in the valley the sunshine comes after the sun rise occurs and it climbs over the hills. So, the delay is real but the BIG guys see it earlier. So, please do your research in your field and come up with concrete facts before quitting your current post.
If you obtain Immigration, you can check in and out like what everyone is currently doing and return when the good times return to us here. You have good THREE Years to get back, after you check in the first time, or before, *IF you land a suitable job prior to that period.

4. That is a good question. We all studied some where else, not all but most of us did. We migrated to Canada. Here they want to know what kind of Degree or Qualifications you have? Also if they are recognized here as equivalent to the local professions. 99.99% of us do not have any that is recognized. That does not mean that what we learned anywhere else is a waste. So, they evaluate your curriculum and say, if you do such and such course and pass with honours, we will give you a piece of paper that will say you have local equivalency or a professional recognition to do what you were qualified to do when you first got out of the Universities or Professional schools.

There are a few Universities that do help you with on line courses for study. You know what you are looking for. Google and find who is doing it and how much it costs and the time it takes. Or alternately search here and post your question into the appropriate thread.

There is another hitch after that, Do you have Canadian Experience? Well it comes slowly after a few miles of hoofing. You might wear *OUT a couple of pairs of shoes.

There are a few locations, that currently do the evaluation and you can search and find them here in Canadian Desi Web site. Or look for the thread suitable to it.

Freddie.
