While there is little problem in surrendering the old PP, I see no reason for the additional fee !!!

"Anyone acquiring foreign citizenship has to surrender his/her Indian passport within three months. 'Penalties will be charged from those passport holders who do not surrender their passports within three months of their acquiring foreign citizenships,' the rule says."
Based on the above, it appears that one will have to surrender the passport regardless of applying for OCI or not.

I wonder why they need the Indian turned foreigners to return the passports? It should only be submitted for cancellation - not return. This is because this document has lot of data which is the only proof at times for travel/work permits granted etc.

This is interesting. I think we paid around $400 per person for PIO/OCI when it started. Me and my kids have it and we were the first ones to get it. Now we have pay again? Let me call the hig comsn. and see what's the deal. Hope its not one of Shashi Tharoor's golmal before he was kicked out.

Am going to be handing in my OCI application today/tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed that this policy is not yet applicable as its not on the OCI website.

What a decision ! Who else but an Indian Babu can think of it. Imagine asking someone who acquired a foreign citizenship long ago (20 / 30 years ago ) to surrender his Indian passport. What happens if they do not find it ?
I hope all this news is just rumour. Could not find it on the web.
