Sure, it could happen here as well.
But it won't be because of the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
So Mr. Stewart has been around for a while at the WWF fund, I assume.
And he wakes up now to warn about this?
Where was he all these years?
I don't like the way some organizations leverage such situations to pump their own agenda.
If there is a real, credible, substantiable risk of spill in Canada, shouldn't he have sounded the bell months/years ago?
If anything, after what has happend in the US, the agencies and drillers will be more cautious here.
In fact, several companies that had been lobbying the Harper govt. to de-regularize and reduce oversight in oil drilling have now backed off.
There were a couple of companies that manufacture oil absorption foam that had been lobbying the Canadain govt. to remove the requirement for having an outlet well for every drilling well (for obvious reasons).
It is unlikely they the Federal govt. will approve any deregulation in the light of recent events.
