What is a BOP? __ It did not do what it was designed to do. This will explain a little bit. It is still leaking 350,000 gallons of crude each day into the Gulf of Mexico.

Latest estimates are at 27000 barrels a day...about 1.08 million gallons or 4.1 million liters per day.

This estimate is from a non-profit organization on environmental studies that calculated the gush (finally...not a leak anymore) based on the oil spread and thickness of the slick.

Initially, this organization estimated about 8000 barrels a day based on their estimate of the thickness of the slick. Apparently, the BP CEO provided (of course, he is likely biting his tongue over that slip) a more scientific explanation of the thickness and based on that, the non-profit revised their gush rate estimate to 27000 barrels a day.
