Just wanted to check with CDs on how do they manage work related stress.

I feel my work is stressing me out. To begin with, I do enjoy my work and don't feel any discrimination. There is no physical work involved in what I do but at the end of the day, I am completely exhausted. Some times, I feel as if I am even working in my dreams. This some times leads to irritation. Hope to hear what others do and how they manage.

Same here. My office has 9 1/2 work hours each day and I travel 2 1/2 hours (total) to an from work. It is so exausting.
The natives sense of humour irritates me. Their mindset and ours is totally different. I can understand why IT guys enjoy. That is b'cos 90 % people in their dept. are desi's and so can enjoy talking with them and eating with them.
For the rest of the professions (except labour jobs) there are 1 % of desi's in the workforce. It is a curse. Not much we can do about it. It is the result of yearning for $ and saving in $ and enjoying what Canada gives us like free sec. education, free snow, free clean water, nice roads, nice nature, nice cars, nice looking people, etc...
I just curse my stars and sweat it out until a revelution breaks out and desi's are given equal oppertunities.

This has to violate the labour standards. 9.5 hrs per day is not normal unless you are paid overtime.

Work stress unfortunately is very common. Do you have hobbies or sports that you engage in during the evenings or weekends? There are many articles online about work-life balance to avoid burn-out.

My job situation is like yours. I love my job but some days go very long and i am mentally exhausted when I get home. However I try to engage in activities which I enjoy (yoga, reading, watching funny movies - any relaxing ones not action or horror), playing with my pets (or kids if you have them), taking a walk if the weather is good.

Just engaging in any activity that a) you enjoy b) will get your body moving, even for a short time ..yes even sex (seriously)

What also helps is sipping water during the day and making sure you eat some raw veggies. I find they give me more energy and 'clear my head'.

Other things are: get a massage (most extended benefit plans cover registered massage therapy), join a continuing education class in something other than work related (ie/ cooking, arts/crafts, sport, etc ),

My favorite expression is "work hard, play hard" - I think this is good advice :)

TK: im curious - why do you have to work so long? 9 1/2 hours doesnt seem right, unless you are working a shortened work week (ie/ to take a 3 day weekend every week)?

Secondly - what is a native sense of humor ? can you explain?

Snow may be free.......but water isnt, at least in BC:)

Take a look at your diet to see if it is balanced. Cut down on tea, coffee, cold drinks (if you consume a lot). Cold drinks in particular are loaded with sugar.

You should look into doing regular physical exercise, if you do not do it at all.

Also you can look into yoga classes, meditation classes/CDs, etc. You can also consult your family doctor to check if blood sugar, blood pressure, etc., are normal.
