Hi,
I'm, from Bangalore in India.
i've just finished my B.Com . I am thinking of taking up an MBA program in US.
I would be very pleased in someone could tell me about the job market in US after completion of my course. And is there any chance of average students getting a job .
If I don't get a job after completion of MBA , how long can i stay there to search for a job. And if i can only stay for a short while , what are the other ways in which i can extend my Visa. Also can I do jobs which are not related to my course or is it necessary that my job should be related to the course i have done to extend my Visa and to stay there.
How long does it take for a person from India to become a citizen in the US.
First thing I want to let you know is that most of the Univ. in US require students to complete 16 years of education to enter into a Masters degree. As you are a B.Com i.e. 15 years of education it may be difficult to get admission. But as admission policy differs from Univ. to Univ. I suggest you look for Univ that would accept your educational qualifications.
Secondly I suggest that you work for a few years before applying for MBA. An average MBA student in USA has 5 to 7 years of work experience.
Currently the job market for Indian MBA graduate is very average. The main reason for this being the fact that a foreigner has to get visa sponsorship to work and a lot of companies are skeptical to sponsor candidates. I don’t know what will happen in future.
A student comes to US on F1 visa. After successful completion of the degree you are given one year to search for employment and H1 B visa sponsorship from the company. The job should complement your education otherwise you may have problem obtaining work visa (H1 B). During education you can work part time in the university. Working outside the University during this period is illegal.
Becoming US citizen ......................... you are in for a LONG wait!
More than 10 years
2 years for Education (MBA)
Get Work visa (H1 B)
Convince company to sponsor for green card
Depending on location in US 4-6 years for getting Green card
After green card 5 years to become citizen.
There are shortcuts available but it all depends on you.
Hope this helps.
