DVD Repair. Light abrasives such as toothpaste, polishes and cleaners will all fix scratches to some degree but you have to be very careful in using them. Some cleaners are actually no good at all for the surfaces of disks. Stuff that you use on glass is fine because it's alcohol-based, like Windex. Stuff that you use on bathrooms or floors are not so good; bathroom cleaners such as Tilex use bleach, which is harmful to DVDs.

I recommend using a solution or kit specifically designed for DVD scratch removal. These kits usually come with a solution and a cloth, like this example I found at Buy.com. There is even something that works like a wet wipe with the DVD solution already applied to the wipe. Whatever you decide to use, make sure that it's appropriate for disc repair and that you use a light touch when applying it. Put a little of your solution on your cloth and, starting from the center of the disk, gently wipe out to the edge of the disk in a straight line. Do not use a circular motion or side-to-side, but only straight from the center to outside. Rub it in lightly then wipe clean with the same lint-free cloth.

And older homes have better quality materials?
who told you that?
the safety, durability and general quality of materials has come a long way in 30 years.
older homes have just horrible horrible materials from todays standards.
i look inside the 30 year old homes in my neighborhood and sometimes wonder how these are even passing inspections.
there is lead, asbestos and many other things embedded deep inside.
rusted water pipes
there is mold behind the drywalls
slew of problems

buying any homes build before the 1990s is basically garbage.

as for the HST thing, it is a non issue.
it applies to only houses worth more than $400,000 and the full HST doesn't begin applying unless you go over $0.5M (at least in Ontario)
and if you are in a position to buy half million dollar houses, you shouldn't even be reading an article about buying second hand stuff :D

unless you live in the madness that vancouver is, where you get a dog kennel for $1M

Its looks like you are a builder and building a lots of house everyday or may be you are a Material Management Engineer or similiar........just kidding don't take seriously.

Any way thanks for sharing your valuble advice........;)

How about the rest of 20 options........;)

I live in the madness that is vancouver :) I also live in a 2 year old house that was a slap dash job and although it looks ok many corners have been cut.
I wasnt referring to very old homes- those that are 20 years or less :)

Appreciate the listing and reasons provided for them. Disagreements are there but the points made sense and noted.

Not to be off the topic, older homes I find to be more sturdy as compared to newer homes. When u go on the stairs, it makes screetching sound, in most of the newer houses. Let's put it htis way. Houses are built by sub contractors hired by the bldrs. Sub contractors will cut corners (e.g. 3 nails instead of 5) to make profit as the lowest bid by a sub contractor would be chosen by the bldr most of the time.
