I have lived in singapore for 1 year and have been in Canada for nearly two years. Singapore is a very clean place, hard to spot a piece of paper on the road. People are very civic minded. The government is sort of authoritarian but people really do not seem to mind it. It is a small place and a great place to visit what with the shopping etc but I would not like to migrate there permanently. I feel very much at home in Canada - maybe its the language. In Singapore, though everyone knows English, most people converse in Mandarin or to a lesser extent, Malay or Tamil. Even the English spoken there is really Singlish - a mishmash of all the three languages spoken above. I feel Canada is a much better country to live on a permanent basis. But then thats just my opinion!

Precisely how I feel about Singapore.
There's one more thing too. I guess Singapore is ok opportunity-wise if you're into a technical field that's in demand. What if you want to be a painter, moviemaker or crave a career in aerospace?
I don't know this for sure, but I have the impression that Singapore offers very limited scope if you want to digress from the norm.

I totally agree....i'll steal a quote from BL from another thread i think it very well summarrizes the whole situation about dreaming about going to switzerland, singapore or even india.

I have said this before, sorry for repeating it ..... i feel the solution really lies in focussing on what we have here and make the best of it ... instead of dreaming and about dwelling on how ideal other countries are .

Yeah, just to confirm that everything is fine with me. Had one of the best weekends in a long time. Watched three good movies, slept a lot, exercised after a long time (which included dancing with my daughter!), read some light fiction, and above all, spent a lot of quality time with the family. And yes, saw some great houses - above half a million - for timepass and to find a purpose again to tighten up my belt!
