If you are planning to come here to save as you did while in US then you have wrong impression. Here not only income tax is high, now they have HST. Medical they say is free...but you still have to pay for medicines at pharmacy. The salaries are less compared to US though cost of living is very high. For each and everything you will pay more compared to US. So if saving is the aim then you just come here with kids as single mom and do not work, you will get a lot of benefits from govt and will be able to save as well without working :). But jokes apart you will not be able to save much if that is the aim. You will work hard and harder only to pay lot of money directly and inderctly to government.
DesiTiger is renowned and wel resepected user on this forum with BMW that has US speedometer and he can elaborate better on how Canada is not like US.

Will your responses change once you read the above?

Actually it would take you 4 years (a little bit more if you travel outside Canada since those days will not be counted for your 3 years), since you would apply after 3 years, then wait for another year to get citizenship. Saving potential could be more in India but it does depend on a lot of factors like if you have own house in India, etc.

If I'd known the criteria for high qualifications, I would have kept my Neon WITH US SPEEDOMETER alive and kicking :) :)

I agree it sounds "discouraging".

Finding a job remotely is quite difficult if not impossible, unless your husband is working in a company that has Canadian presence and he can get a transfer

As a reader noted, by the time you are a citizen you are into it for 4-4.5 years

With savings potential less than that of India its hard for me to understand how you may be able to garner the capital, assuming you meant you will save here.

Bottomline, if you plan to immigrate, immigrate for the right reasons. In my opinion money is that last thing that you make in Canada. We have a socialist structure and all our investments, time and money, are geared towards a secure retirement. It is indeed a different perspective.

Obviously you donot know Canada.
Canada is great for IT , High end business and FInance people (the only people that may enjoy a decent lifestyle in Caada), but then having said that AS400 is a very old and outdated technology that I doubt if your husband will get any job here. There are a lot of PM's in Canada (though not in IT)who are yet to get a decent job in 3 years and who have experience in the Gulf and other places.
I laughed when I read your second paragraph. That is exactly how the canadian govt. cheats people to immigrate here. If you come here and stay for 3+1 year to the citizenship, it is very likely that you will have to liqudate your indian assets to survive those 3+1 years and then at the end have a Canadian passport and live pay cheque to pay cheque or return to India empty handed. The choice is yours.
I wholeharteredly welcome you to canada as we need rich Indian people who can sell assets in India and then bring that money to Canada and spend it in Canada.

Peace

I have varied experience: software loclaization testing, german translations, freelance web research, social networking management.

Your situation is quite painful. However many families are passing through the agony (like yours) in India, Canada and US. I advise you to stay where you are and try more extensive job search or do some upgradation.

Moving to Canada (just because not satisfied with the job in India) will not guarantee the loss of pain.

After moving to Canada you will have to deal with job search or where to settle(toronto, Vancouver, alberta, sask or montreal) or to spend time for settling kids in the school etc. etc. list never ends.

Better move to Saskatchewan or Alberta...as finding job is way easier in these provinces comp ON or BC.

Good Luck:cheers:

Thank you all for keeping this conversation alive and offering valuable feedback.
MGupta seems to be the only one with an encouraging response !

I do understand that it might not be a good idea to move.

Perhaps we might call it off. But tell me honestly: if you were in the same boat, would you have let your PR card go? Call it off before even trying?
