My personal experience shows that it is tough to get a permanent full-time Medical Transcriptionist job in/around Toronto. Somehow I have a feeling that there are a lot of medical transcriptionists who have come from India and living in Toronto. If they call you for interview and you are good with all the skills they need, may be you can get a contract job for 6 months/temp job/casual, on call, position. That may eventually become a full-time position but no guarantees. I do not see a lot of permanent full-time jobs advertised also.

I cannot speak for whole of Canada. I see Fraser Health has been advertising for quite some time in British Columbia but again it is not plenty of jobs.

Again there is question of Canadian experience without which your resume may not evoke much response.

Some of the hospitals have started outsourcing and some have trial voice recognition software running. Now government has started to put pressure on hospitals to cut budgets, so hospitals are looking for ways to cut down staff.

There are a few medical transcription companies in Canada that give work at home but you should be very fast and accurate medical dictypist since they pay you per line typed.

These are some of the CHALLENGES!

I feel if you have to do a course, then pursue something that has a technical aspect and something that cannot be outsourced to other countries.
