Hello Everyone,
I have been through lots of post relating to international students advising. I must appreciate some dedicated people to religiously replying to post and rocking the charcha section. You may or may not be able to help me but i thank you for considering at my post.
Friends i am an International Student presently enrolled in community college. I have my off-campus work permit & am dedicatedly maintaining a good stand of my Student & OCWP Permit.
My query is related to the opportunities available for the international students after finishing there college, frankly i have final semester of studies left which means my course is finishing coming April 2007 and still i have 3 months of legal status in Canada. Now in order to maintain my status i need to act within 3 months.
I have 2 choices:-
1) Apply for full time work permit
2) Apply for Study Permit Extension.
However i am more interested in first option to apply for fulltime work permit but am not sure about the process, as it sounds very confusing. "I have to arrange a Job Acceptance Letter matching my studies in Canada". Lets assume if i don’t find a job matching my studies what is the other alternative , because i know once my application for work permit is in processing i cannot apply for the student permit renewal "CORRECT ME IF WRONG" & What happens my work permit application gets delayed & am out of status. ---- CAN ANYONE PLEASE EXPLAIN ME IF I AM ELIGIBLE FOR THE WORK PERMIT & THE POSSIBILITIES----.
I will wait for your response
Thanks
Navdeep
hi first of all you have to make up your mind. If you renew your study permit you have to pay another $10,000 for a year fee for int student. thus i advice you to put ur resume on workopolis/monster or canadian desi who knows any desi can assist you if there is a vacancy that suits ur experience and they can issue u the work permit which doesnt need any HRDC approval - you can get work and get experience for a year and save some money and in the meantime if you like canada u can submit your application for Permanent resident here and once u get ur landing paper u can study here which is around 1/3 tht you are paying now.

hey navdeep,
Answers for your questions :-
1) yes ,you have to apply for a work permit after finishing ur studies and try to find a jobs on internet and most probably you will find it and If you dont find it apply for open work permit chances are less but you dont have anu option.
2) extending your study permit ,It cost money not 10,000 but still lot of money.(try for local private colleges) first try to get the offer letter from commounity college and then transfered to a private college by doing this your visa will be extended easily and moreover less money.
and my friend i dont think so once your work permit is cancel you can'nt apply for study permit.
If u studied for two years program out side of Toronto, montereal, vancuever area, you can get two years work permit. It is called Post Graduate Work Permit. Once you get a job offer letter and u apply for PG work permit I bet you will never get rejection unless the job letter is fake. So dont worry abt study permit renewal just concentrate on getting a genuine job offer.
U have 90 days to apply for this PG work permit from the day you graduate from college. You can stay in Canada for 90 days maximum after your visa has expired as long as you have applied for extension of your stay.
I am over whelmed by the responses. Jigs787 I deeply appreciate your concern over the matter. However i had one question in mind which is quite doughtfull and many people have different opinion about it. I would like you advice on this one.
I am almost done with my studies & i have finished my studies in college located in GTA. Is there anyway i can get 2 years work permit. Let's say if i apply for the job anywhere in canada except for the GTA, Vancover, Montreal etc.
waiting for your response !
Thanks
