Hi, landing soon, we are debating whether to book a basement in a condo of some referenced contacts or a luxury furnished place in the heart of the city.

Looking in Mississauga - we want to look for apartments near the square one area, but land in a fully furnished place for the initial month. but since it is the peak season the rent for the fully furnished place is quite high. we also have the option of a basament place a little further away. Below is the argument going on in my mind - would love to have your opinions and suggestions on it =)
please advise :

* Basement place is cheaper - but square one area is about 40 mins by bus it says

* Luxury apartment is affordable but still expensive --- just for a month - but should be spend so much just for the comfort??

* Luxury apartment is near the area where we want to look for a house so walking distance to everything --- basement option place needs a 40 mins bus route to get to square one then we look for apartments by foot or bus here n there.

* Basement option does not offer airport pick up and internet is not included in the rent but available -- luxury apartment offers airport pick up, free all utilities including phone, internet etc and fully furnished upto the ironing board!

* Basement apartment is cheaper so we can even stay on for 45 days or even 2 months hence secure the address for the arrival for pr card --- luxury condo is expensive and would have to move within the month and the address for pr card is questionable :\

* Basement is depressing underground place with no windows or anything - luxury apartment will be a happy beginning and first experience in Canada.

* Basement is away from downtown - Luxury condo is near banks, info centers, pharmacy... u name it!

* Basement option has the owners ( family) for help and guidance --- Luzury condo - we are independant and on our own ( dunno if its a good thing or a bad :P)

ummmm........

thats it i guess......or maybe .......would love to hear what you all have to say n help me decide =)

Thaaaaaaaaaaaaanx!!!:)

It appears that you haven't actually seen the basement room yet and have no clear idea exactly where it is located vis-a-vis your preferred location of Square One.

I strongly recommend do not sign up for a basement room without first inspecting it and getting your bearings right i.e. where it is located, how long is the commute, nearby shopping, etc.

If the "luxury apartment" is not asking you to lock in a lease, i.e. you can stay for 1 month and then leave, that is your best option.

IMHO, it is worthwhile paying the extra $$ to first get your bearings right before deciding on a more permanent accomodation.

:) Thank you for helping me focus, the furnished apartment is worth it for a first time landing experience i guess. I hope it lives up to its par as promised on the website. nopes. not seen either ov it and the basement seems not a good option as we have not seen it + the distance as well. so lets just keep our fingers crossed for a lovely experience and hope the expensive furnished apartment is well worth the cost :)
