Hi Guys!
It's really a wonderful site. Your advices are really helping me a lot.
I am planning to come to Toronto in April - May 2004. I have a son who will be 1 year and 3 months by that time and a daughter who will be 11 1/2 years. My problem is without seeing toronto which area we should select to stay initially, for how many days we should book the place whether a hotel or a furnished apartment? We need a kitchen facility. The area should be the central place so that we can look for our would be apartment easily based on the locality of good school and daycare centre.
What about the medical insurance for the first three months? My son's MMR would be due at that time. What should I do?
First of all i wud like to congratulate u for ur immigration .... .The best place to go first in ETOBICOKE as it is very near to the airport n above all , Etobicoke has 78% desi's so it wud be very easy for u to communicate with people n enquire about ur queries. The best thing about Etobicoke is that 49% on job agencies r here so..first thing do after landing here is to enroll urself in as much agencies as u can..dONT WORRY ABOUT THE SCHOOL'S FOR UR children ,Here each area has its own school
neways
WELCOME TO CANADA
Hi Canadian_Desi,
Thanks a lot for your wishes. Can you give me a brief idea of Toronto map?
Which are the prime areas? Where are all the multinationals cos. , shopping malls, banks, good schools and good houses located?
Try http://www.toronto.com/. Or you can go to google and type "Map of Toronto"
Areawise, there's basically downtown toronto and the sorrounding area is known as GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Sort of like Bombay Central and the suburbs. They are mainly Scarborough, North York, Markham, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton. (I'm sure someone will remind me if I missed their town)
Where you want to live depends on where you are working and how much you're willing to pay for real-estate. If you're working in downtown, Scarborough, North York, Markham or Etobicoke are closer (on average about 30 - 45 minutes of public transit travelling time). From Mississauga it would be about an hour and a bit longer from Brampton (again, depending on where you live in these towns)
I live in Mississauga and hence and thus have a bias in its favor. I think its the best city in GTA. Lots of Indians (majority punjabis) here as well, great restaurants and nice malls too.
