Introduction :
With the rise in Oil prices in the gulf, Most of the gulf countries are expaning their business and are in a boom time. Lot of recruitment is going on and I am sure that a lot of Canadian desi's might want to try out savings in the gulf. At many times, CD's donot know the current situation in the gulf and may undersell themselves to their employer.
I am starting this thread so that recent residents/ residents of these respective countries may put in the current cost of living in these countries.
I am posting details about Qatar in this post :
"
Iam provided with a 2 bed room, hall, dining fully furnished house here by the co. & so not have to bothere much on the rent hikes. But it affects our salary since the co. is paying a very high rent. My basic salary is 8K+ house+ car & a minimum of 3 months bonus annually.Iam able to save appr. 50k a month + bonus. But if u get into some of the OIL cos. ur saving potential could be around 3000-4000 US$ a month, because they offer a very good salary(around 14K) + HRA (11K)+schooling+bonus.But the openings for architects r limited.People r striking rich if they enter these cos.

Landline cost : QR 33 / month
Cellphone cost : QR 60 / month
School : QR 275-700 / month depending on the school
Petrol : 3 QR / Gallon
Insurance for car : QR 400 / year - Third party
Internet - QR 265 /Month (Unlimited)
Housing - QR 8000 to 9000 a month (yes. A month and it is just for a 2 bedroom apartment). It is really crazy. The real estate market in Qatar is in a wild swing. Therefore negotiate housing with the employer that they provide it for free. It is not worth going to Qatar without free housing by the employer. Also ask him for 2 bedroom and fully furnished or more

Hope this helps someone

Welcome to Doha. So when you are relocating here. If you need any assistance feel free to write to me
CD's,
I am giving below the expenses for a desi person in Sydney who owns a house.
The rates are pretty much valid for a person who leads a good life.

*******************************************************
TK,
These are the expenses in Sydney if you own a house of approx 300K
All per month:
Mortgage 2000.00 (this is for a 25 year home loan)
Elec bill 75.00
Water 75.00
Gas 75.00
Council rates 75.00
Food 800.00 - this is grocery and vegies and chicken (We dont
eat any other NV other than Chicken and Fish)
Car insurance 100.00 (Depends on which area you live)
Petrol 300.00 (Becos I drive 75 km daily to and from
work)- otherwise trains will be 200 per wk to work
School 60.00 - School is free but other contingency
expenses for school
Tuition fee 600.00 (This is a killing expense for anyone) - tutoring
costs are for 1 hour 40$ for Eng, 45$ for Maths and 45$ for Chemistry -
This expense will not be there from next year. However University books
are very costly. Having said that University education fees goes on to
HECS (Higher Education Contribution system). This means that Govt pays for
it and you pay back when you start earning after your salary touches 40K
per annum.
Medical approx 50$ a month.
Contingencies - Tamil movies in theatres and other Indian programs (for eg
SPB and Sadana Sargam are performing next month in Opera house and I am
taking family - each ticket costs 60$. Tamil movies in Theatres cost $15
each ticket) - We go for at least one movie a month. So approx
entertainment exp comes to $100.
Dresses etc - 50$ a month - say school shoes, uniforms, office shoes,
undies, socks - Geneal trousers and shirts are stitched and brought from
India.
Hope this is clear.
