I am not from IT. Is this something simple and doable?

Good suggestion. Recently We are in the process of implemeting mobile version of CD and most of the pages should work well with it. Still in the process of doing it.

Haven't thought about a specific app yet.

Not sure how far you have implemented the changes but if possible I suggest to implement UI to look and work like iphone app. This will make it platform independent and user of android or IOS will see same UI on mobile device. Just my two cents...
