Dear All,

Very informative forum. I haven't been able to close it for the past 2 days :)

Let me introduce myself. I'm a mechanical engineering graduate with 6+ years experience in Research & Development (US & Danish MNC's) living in Chennai, India. My husband is a 8+ years experienced IT testing professional working with a US MNC.
Our application is in process, we have submitted all the originals & the stamping would probably be done in a month or so.
Both of us are in good paying jobs in India. The primary reason for immigrating is to provide a better infrastructure & lifestyle for our daughter. If we can earn some money & send it back home it wouldn't hurt either :)
We would like to come to Canada only after any one of us gets a job from here, but looks like that would be difficult. We are trying to take help from a reputed agency here to help us out on the job search.
Well, Its time I write what I need to know - Whatever I have read so far has experiences of people from accountancy & IT experience. I don't seem to see anybody from the engineering background.
Can somebody throw some light on it?

Please hear this from a fellow Chennaite also from AC TECH.

THIS WILL BE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU WILL MAKE IN YOUR LIFE.

I can offer you plenty of recent Unemployed P.Eng graduate Mechanical Engineers from UFT.

The country is under recession and people are loosing jobs including government.

There is also another thing happening parallely that is salary corrections. The days of high earnings are disappearing and thus will shortly reflect in IT also.

This is not the time to immigrate to Canada.

Neither you'll earn/ save money but you will loose out on the savings and your current career.

DO NOT DO IT. LOOK AT WHATEVER YOU HAVE SPENT AS CONTRIBUTION TO CHARITY AND MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE.

No agency can get you a job they are all scams.

DON'T do it.

Well........
I didn't expect such a reply...
Anyway, its been a cakewalk all along for me, I haven't really struggled for anything till date... It is a very tough decision to take if I were to come to Canada leaving behind the career & family here...
But still I think I would take the decision to come to canada atleast to get my PR, may be one of us can stay behind & try our luck in the job market...
So, please I would like to hear some engineers success stories which would boost my confidence. I'm not going to drop it without even trying........
Anyone supporting me?????

Consider me a fellow chennaite.

You don't need to answer my question if you don't like to.

Why are you thinking of leaving Chennai for Canada. Is this for better monetary prospects or any other reason you perceive to help. Chennai is evolving to be an automotive hub...

I know some people with the Mechanical Engg background moved here (originally from Bangalore with some Middle east experience), no body had the interest to hit the college back or pursue to P.Engg.. if I am right they are working as AutoCAD technology, some in Aeronautics but their compensation isn't quite comparable to those who are educated locally or the one with P.Engg... On the Mechanical Engg front, send me if you have any discrete questions, I will forward and relay the answer back to you.

Hello JRF,

As mentioned earlier the primary reason for immigrating to canada is for a better life for my daughter. Of course, better life would be possible only if the monetary situation is good.

I don't mind going back to college to get P.Eng, but isn't there a way to land with a decent job with what qualification I have at present? Can I get P.Eng studying part-time?
I'm a certified AVS (Associate Value Specialist) by SAVE International (Society of American Value Engineers), I also have a plan to do a PMI certification. Will that be of any advantage?
With all these info please suggest how I should plan for Canada. I have spent a lot of time & money on the Immigration, I really do not want that to go waste.

Senior CDs opinions would help be of great help.

OK..

Can you write a general summary (without specific details such as name of the company, name of the school etc.,) looking something like the one below. I will forward it to the folks.

- Bachelors Degree in Accounting / Finance from India.
- 2 years experience in managing Receivables.
- 2 years in managing company books.
- 1 year in tax.
- 1 year in auditing.
- Experience with accounting in US companies, UK etc.,
- SOX compliance, MS office, Powerpoint, Tally, Great Plains.
- ISO 9001 etc., etc.,

Take a month time, and run a research on your own as much as you could.. there are many other forums where people discuss apart from this, you could also post your comments there....

As you find more time researching, you are most likely to get all the information you need.

You have a big advantage of your husband working in IT. Ask him to do more research as the opportunities on testing is generally high (less stressful also)...
